We had the good fortune of connecting with Amy Zunzunegui and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amy, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
There wasn’t much thought put into starting a business before I entered into this. LOL. In all seriousness, I never had a calling to start my own business as I had a bit of insight into how hard it was during the early years at Urban Decay. But the stars aligned and here we are.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
WLDKAT is a skincare brand that doesn’t look, feel, speak or act like a skincare brand and that is by design. When I set out to launch a skincare brand I realized I (along with so many others) was exhausted by the complexity of the industry and the ridiculous promises that brands were making. So I went back to basics and created a lineup of products addressing the thing that we all want for our skin…GLOW! Marrying the idea of delivering products that are serious in how they work + seriously interesting in the way they look, WLDKAT was born.

In no way has this ride been easy. Every day throws new challenges at us, most of which are solvable if you have the time and resources. There is the biggest challenge.

WLDKAT is supercharged simplicity. Clean, sustainable, vegan, cruelty-free products, $25 and under.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
One of the biggest benefits of living in Southern California and specifically Newport Beach is the weather and being by the water. When friends come into town, we do almost everything by the water. Ride bikes, eat, drink, take drives, etc. There are always new restaurants popping up in the area and we are close to LA as well which always has fun things to do. If we want to get really adventurous, then we snowboard/ski in the morning and then surf in the later afternoon.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The group of humans I would like to recognize is the small group of vendors that have taken a chance on this brand and us. They have been highly supportive over the past few years and are some of our biggest cheerleaders.
