Meet Nathen & Shelby Maxwell | Songwriters / Musicians

We had the good fortune of connecting with Nathen & Shelby Maxwell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nathen & Shelby, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
Music is our passion and livelihood, and we have seen firsthand over the years how it can shape both individuals and communities. We believe music, especially when created from the heart, has the power to heal. It’s a universal language anyone in the world can enjoy, relate to, or find comfort in.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Our band, VOLORES, is our shared musical passion incarnate. As a husband and wife duo who are experiencing life together and creating art around it, VOLORES has allowed us to share vulnerable pieces of ourselves with each other and the rest of the world. In that, we feel our music brings a unique, refreshing perspective on life by finding hope in the dark parts we put on display. In the words of Robert Frost, “The best way out is through,” and music offers the space to comfort and heal the hurt it’s sometimes built around. That where VOLORES’ focus lies. In the raw honesty of life, death, and everything else in between. It has taught us to find the beauty in the good, the bad, and the ugly, and we hope to share that others.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We’d probably start by going out into beautiful Colorado nature to do some hiking, fishing, or camping. There are so many epic places to see like Devil’s Head, Red Rocks, Garden of the Gods, or Pike’s Peak to name a few favorites. After adventuring, we’d do some record/gift shopping at our favorite shop, The Leechpit, in Colorado Springs. Last but not least, there’d be a slew of possible food and drink options we’d choose from, like Phantom Canyon Brewing Company for their green chili or down to The Rabbit Hole for their speakeasy vibe and unique cocktails.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We would like to give a shoutout to our kids. We know that having parents who have to travel for work isn’t easy, but they have always remained their best selves. They are constant inspirations to us, and we could not be more grateful for their tenacity and spirit.
