Meet Rachel Maier | Makeup and Hair Artist, Esthetician

We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachel Maier and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rachel, what do you attribute your success to?
I think confidence plays a big role in the success of anyone’s business. It is literally my job as a makeup artist to make woman feel their most beautiful for their wedding day, to have confidence and feel their best. I have to elude confidence and pass it along to my clients in whatever kind of job I’m doing. I feel this has brought me success and continues to do so in my other business ventures.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My love for makeup started at a young age. Sneaking into my mothers makeup bag, putting on a red lipstick and quickly taking it off before I got caught. I also grew up dancing and getting ready for a recital was my favorite because that meant MAKEUP! I think what sets me apart from others is I have a distinctive style that reflects my love for beauty, vintage/pinup, rock ‘n roll and I wake up every day with a desire to create beauty. I am so blessed to have started my bridal career here on the western slope, and specifically based in Montrose because no one here had the training and experience I had, no one was producing the work I do. I dove right in as a freelance artist and my business grew by word of mouth. I think that’s so important and wonderful being in a small area. I’ve had a few really great professional opportunities as lead makeup artist and hope for more of that in the future. With bridal season being a literal season here, I have worked to add more services to my repertoire that I can do in a salon while I’m not doing makeup and hair for a bride or other client. The beauty industry is one in which is always changing and growing and as a professional and someone who loves this work I too want to always be changing and growing along with it. I absolutely love what I do in bringing other women, confidence and beauty for any occasion.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Montrose Colorado doesn’t exactly offer city life. My life has changed tremendously moving out here from California. But I love it here! When a friend arrives for a visit Ouray and Ridgway are definitely on the list of places to see. A trip to the Hot Springs (if it’s night time I choose Orvis) and Mouse’s chocolate. Then back to Montrose for Tacos and Beer and maybe swing by our cute speakeasy Phelanies (although I did give up casual drinking in 2023) . I love checking out a good live concert, something I do miss most about the city is music that caters to all genres. I love being around confident, care free, loving and humbled people and keep those kinds of people around me.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate this shout out to my Mama, Sheryl Sanchez who is my biggest fan and biggest supporter in any endeavor I get myself into!
