Meet Harsha Chathuranga | UI/UX Designer | Web Designer | Graphic Designer | Illustrator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Harsha Chathuranga and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Harsha, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The thought of starting my own business had always been in my mind. I wanted to put all the knowledge and skills I had gained into something unique. As a designer, I am naturally inclined toward creativity, innovation, and problem-solving. So, running my freelance design business was not just about being my boss but also about having the freedom to explore new ideas and create something unique.
Moreover, starting my own design business would give me more control over my projects, clients, and the quality of work I deliver.
These factors were essential in my decision to start my own design business.
So, with a clear vision and a passion for design, I took the plunge and started my own design business. It has been a challenging but incredibly rewarding journey, and I am excited to see where it takes me next.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As a UI/UX, web, and graphic designer, I believe that my unique and creative design concepts and my ability to create visually stunning and user-friendly designs set me apart from other designers in the industry. I take great pride in my work and strive to communicate my client’s brand message effectively through my designs.
Building a solid portfolio has been essential in achieving my professional goals, and Behance has been an excellent platform for attracting clients. I won the Bronze Award in a competition last year for the best personal website by Bestweb.LK has been a remarkable achievement in my journey and has given me excellent support for my future career.
My journey to becoming a successful designer was challenging. I faced numerous obstacles along the way. However, I overcame these challenges through perseverance, dedication, and hard work. I believe that success in any field requires a strong work ethic, a willingness to learn, and the ability to adapt to new challenges.
I have learned many valuable lessons along the way, including the importance of continually improving my skills and staying updated with the latest design trends. As for my brand story, I am passionate about helping my clients grow their brands through innovative design solutions. My goal is to help my clients communicate their unique stories effectively through their visual identity. With my creativity, expertise, and dedication, I am committed to providing my clients with exceptional design services that will help them stand out in their industry.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend visited my area, I would like to take them to some of the best places to eat, drink, and hang out in the city. We could go to a few trendy restaurants with a unique ambiance and delicious dishes with locally sourced ingredients for breakfast & lunch.
We could visit the Colombo National Museum in the afternoon to learn more about Sri Lanka’s rich history and culture. Then we could head over to the Dutch Hospital Shopping Precinct, a colonial-era building that has been converted into a trendy shopping and dining destination.
Throughout the week, we can also visit some of the city’s famous landmarks, like the Gangaramaya Temple, Independence Square, and the Old Parliament Building. And, of course, we would have to take a stroll along Galle Face Green and watch the sunset over the Indian Ocean.
Overall, I would like to show my friend the unique blend of history, culture, and modernity that Colombo offers.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to express my gratitude to my beloved wife, Piyumi Nuwanthika, and my family, including my parents, for their unwavering support throughout my journey. Their encouragement and assistance have been invaluable during the challenging times and the moments of success. I owe them a debt of thanks.
Additionally, I am grateful to my sister, Sachini Anuruddika, who has provided me with various creative concepts, including illustrations, for my work. Moreover, I appreciate several American clients who generously provided me with design elements for free while working as a freelancer. I have utilized these resources in numerous projects and am truly grateful for their contributions to my work.
I want to express my gratitude to the authors of two books that have significantly impacted my knowledge and experience. The first is “Alibaba: The House That Jack Ma Built” by Duncan Clark, which tells the inspiring story of how Jack Ma built one of the world’s largest e-commerce companies from scratch. This book is filled with valuable insights into entrepreneurship, leadership, and innovation, and I have learned a lot from it.
The second book that I want to thank is “Steve Jobs” by Walter Isaacson, which is a fascinating biography of the visionary co-founder of Apple Inc. This book provides a unique perspective on the life and career of Steve Jobs, and I was particularly impressed by his unwavering pursuit of innovation and his commitment to creating products that would change the world.
I’ve learned a lot about leadership, innovation, and business from these books. And I am grateful to the authors for sharing their knowledge and insights. I highly recommend these books to anyone interested in these topics and who wants to learn from some of the most successful and influential business leaders of our time.
Also, I want to express my gratitude to Ashley Davis for providing me with the opportunity to share my experiences with others in VoyageDenver Magazine. Additionally, I am thankful to all those who have motivated and supported me along the way, as their encouragement has helped me reach this point in my journey.
