Meet Shena White | Fractional CFO and Certified Scaling Up Coach

We had the good fortune of connecting with Shena White and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shena, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When I started my very first business over 10 years ago I honestly did not want to be an entrepreneur. I had a good job and really enjoyed the perceived safety of a paycheck. My now ex-husband pretty much insisted we start a business because he did not want to travel anymore since we were going to have a child. I had a background in sales and he in construction so our business was born. For the first few years we struggled to make our business profitable and then we found out our accountant had embezzled all of our tax payments for the previous 3 years. I took that next year to learn everything I could about business, finance, tax, etc and turned the business completely around. We went from 4% to 24% profits in one year. Friends and colleagues started asking me what the secret to my turnaround was and my current business was born. I found my passion helping other business owners to truly understand and own their finances and create exponential profits in their businesses. I still work with a ton of construction companies, but as their fractional CFO instead of directly in the business anymore.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a fractional CFO and certified Scaling Up coach. Most people here Fractional CFO and think “huh”? Really what I do is help business owners to understand their business finances so they can make more money and keep more of the money they make. So many entrepreneurs are so good at what they do, but when it comes to the money they are lost. I seek to help them with a path and a plan so that they are confident in their financial and business decision making process.
I started in this business after transforming my own construction company from 4% profit to 24% profit in one year and then scaling that company to a 7-figure profitable business. I figured out the steps to making it happen and wanted to share everything I learned with others.
One of my clients went from putting my fee on a credit card to having over 250k in the bank in under one year. Another client was able quadruple her earnings in only 3 months.
I absolutely love helping business owners to not only understand, but be empowered by their finances. I am inspired when I see companies turned around in mere months and then grow to heights they never even thought possible in no time at all.
I became a certified Scaling Up coach to better serve my clients and be able to give them the step by step roadmap to growing their business every year, no matter the economy or business climate. Growing a business is expensive and I am proud that I can help businesses to find the money to help them scale effectively.

I am a fierce advocate for the financial independence and empowerment of women.
I see so many business owners who focus so much on their sales that they neglect the rest of what their financial reports are telling them. Sales is vanity, profit is sanity, but cash is king. Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am not super outdoorsy, but I love Denver. My favorite food stops are El Five, Lucille’s, and Makizushiko. I love the zoo, botanic gardens, and the butterfly pavilion. Also, I LOVE sports and would take them to a Nuggets or Broncos game!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
A first Shoutout to my amazing fiancé, Jerry Garcia. A few years ago I was only doing this work as a side gig, but some things happened in tandem and I had the opportunity to go full time. He encouraged me then to take the leap and he encourages me everyday to strive for the next level. I couldn’t do this without his unwavering support and I’m glad I never have to.

Secondly, to Verne Harnish and the Scaling Up Coaches team. I had been teaching people to grow their cash and their businesses for years, but I was kind of on an island. When I discovered Scaling Up and the Coaches organization I found a place where I truly belong. The support and collaboration is unmatched.
