Meet Denise Smith | Providing Insurance and Financial Services

We had the good fortune of connecting with Denise Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Denise, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
The single most important decision was tapping into my early success in athletics (University of Colorado, Track and Cross Country 1983-1987) and applying it to my career. The best way I can describe it is I was able to transcend my talents from the track to my business. This included meeting with other top notch business owners and finding out what skills and attributes they had. The fascinating part was I discovered that they had similar qualities, though different personalities. For example, they all had a planned meeting, with specific programs they wanted to show me. They had unmatched energy. They highly recommended reading books on business and the insurance industry.

What should our readers know about your business?
I am an Insurance Agent for State Farm Insurance Companies. I have been with State Farm for 35 years, in different capacities, to include Claims, Agency and Agency Management. I provide Insurance and Financial Services to families and small businesses in the Colorado Marketplace, and am licensed to sell Life Insurance in a few other states as well. I have a Series 6 license, and am also a Mortgage Loan Broker. Many people don’t know that State Farm has alliances with top companies such as Jackson, Rocket Mortgage and US Bank. In order for me to develop professionally and provide this array of services, I continued my education and am proud to say that I am a Chartered Financial Consultant (CHFC), Certified Life Underwriter (CLU), Retirement Income Certified Professional (RICP) and Life Underwriter Training Council Fellow (LUTCF). The time and dedication required to achieve all of these designations wasn’t easy, but worth it. My office is bi-lingual and we are helping many Latino families with their planning needs as well.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Colorado has so many fun places to visit, and the key places I’d take them are Red Rocks, Garden of the Gods, and Boulder. On the other side of the mountain from Boulder, is an amazing resort, the Devils Thumb Ranch. Their restaurant, Hecks Tavern is fun, has great Organic food, and overlooks acres and acres of pure beauty. I recently moved to the Canyons in Castle Pines, and my favorite place is my patio, overlooking the Hess Reservoir and the bluffs. The community has a great coffee shop, The Exchange. Sierra in Lone Tree is a must, with fabulous Chile Rellenos and Jalapeno Margaritas. Their sister restaurant, La Loma in Castle Rock is amazing.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Greg Rideout, my Sales Leader, has been an instrumental influence in my growth as a business owner and Insurance Agent. We were initially business associates, each managing a group of insurance agents in the Denver Metro marketplace. I then transitioned from Agency Leadership back to owning my own individual Agency. Coincidentally, Greg was managing the territory in which I transitioned to, so we continue to work together.
