We had the good fortune of connecting with Krish Shankar and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Krish, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Since I was a kid, my goal was always to pursue something creative in the hopes of financial success. The good thing about that mentality is that I cycled through many different creative fields (video game development, screenwriting, book writing, movie editing, etc.) until I finally found music. The bad thing about that mentality was not realizing how irrelevant money is in making us/myself feel fulfilled. It’s great to have and gives people the freedom to be happier but starting the music business happened out of love for the industry above anything else. After years of making music, working with different artists, and building my social media following; so much time went by when I realized, “I haven’t stopped yet”. Starting this business unfolded naturally and I hope it continues to do so. I owe some of the best moments of my life thus far to this journey.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I mainly target the hip-hop/rap genre of music as that’s what I listen to the most. I began making beats in 2017 and continued ever since. YouTube videos and other tutorials were the best way for me to understand the software (Logic Pro X) better. This process, at first, felt impossible. There is tedious and difficult work that goes into music production as well as audio engineering that most people never experience for themselves. Eventually, using the software became second nature which was when I could focus on the marketing side of the business. Funny enough, this process was even more difficult than learning the software. I underestimated the amount of luck and consistency it takes to go viral or at least have a decent following. After realizing this, I upload a beat every day and have done so for the past two and a half years. I’m lucky enough to say that my YouTube channel hit 1.9 million cumulative views. I’m also glad to realize hard work definitely pays off in the end.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The most eventful place to go to in Colorado would definitely be the heart of downtown Denver. I’d take them to Shanahan’s for a steak, any one of the clubs at night, then spend the night at Hilton. Downtown Denver is definitely a worthwhile place to visit. It’s full of rich culture and I would say their clubs, museums, and restaurants are all worth checking out.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’m lucky to have had a great network of people throughout my life so far supporting me as I work on this business. I would especially like to thank two of my best friends growing up Krishna Chunduri, Deepesh Lakkaraju, and Joel Gonzalez. They are some of the most hardworking and dedicated people I have met. Without worrying about my own future and trying new things with them, I wonder if I ever would have discovered music-making as my true passion.
