We had the good fortune of connecting with Morgan McNeece and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Morgan, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have worked my entire life with the past 20 years always working for someone else to help fulfill their dreams and fill their pockets. When I became an independent contractor and created my own business, while it was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done in life, it allowed me the freedom to spend more time with my kids and work when I want to work or how much or how little that I want. While I know that the more time and effort I put in the quicker the business grows, I also know that work-life balance is very important and working for myself, the biggest motivator has always been freedom.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As I have loved music my entire life, I would say my passion for my career started at a young age. Through many different jobs and careers, music was the one thing I always lacked in my life. After many jobs that didn’t really fulfill me, I decided to get my degree in audio production and entertainment business. During my education, I was able to obtain work as a live sound engineer while I was in the beginning stages of building my business. Now almost 10 years later I am a successful business owner and live entertainment professional. In addition to running my company as a music producer and mix engineer, I also work full-time as a live sound engineer and stagehand. My entire life now revolves around live entertainment and music, and while it’s not always easy to balance everything, I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world. I work hard now so I can build a legacy and a future for my family. Through all of this time the biggest lesson I’ve learned is to just keep going. No ever succeeds when they quit.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend came to Colorado for a week, I would take her on a tour of all of the amazing taco trucks around the Denver Metro area. I would take her out to a show maybe at The Gothic or maybe a stop at Meow Wolf. Denver has grown so much since she lived here and I know she would love all of the cool new things in the area like Bounce Empire in Lafayette. Maybe we would go catch a show at The Louisville Underground since we used to eat there as kids when it was The Blue Parrot.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
In my story, the most inspiring people and mentors have been my instructors and colleagues at both Full Sail University and Berklee College of Music. After finishing my degree programs, I have continued to stay in contact with many people in my industry that I have connected with over the years, whether just to pick their brain or to get through troubling times. These people have truly held me down.
