We had the good fortune of connecting with Ryan Maguire and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ryan, what do you want people to remember about you?
I want my legacy to be someone that made the most of his time on this planet. Someone who explored his curiosity and used his resources to help people and make the world a better place.

What should our readers know about your business?
My business is WYLD RYDE Outdoors LLC. We run courses and adventures to help folks feel more confident in the natural world. I have pushed myself in very extreme survival situations and have pursued knowledge from many of the best practitioners around. Living a life in the outdoors eventually lead to becoming a teacher at different schools before starting my own business. I offer folks the chance to disconnect from modernity, learn invaluable skills, and connect with a beautiful community.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
As you can guess, I’m not a huge fan of spending a lot of time in the city. If I had a friend visiting I would probably take them to a more mountainous environment. The first thing that pops into my head would be a walkabout through the San Juan Mountain Range. Foraging wild edibles, hunting, drinking water from snow melt. All the good stuff.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have so many people to thank for helping me get this far. First and foremost, my Mother. As a kid she let me explore the natural world in whatever way I pleased. The freedom and encouragement to pursue these skills is in large part thanks to her. We have been through so much together (the good and the bad) but ultimately we always connect through our shared love for the natural world.
