We had the good fortune of connecting with Kiara and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kiara, why did you pursue a creative career?
This is something that I love, I’ve loved it ever since I learned how to make things rhyme, it’s a passion, and there can be times where it feels overwhelming and I feel like it makes no sense but I always come back to it at the end of the day, I have never seen myself doing anything else in life; if I have to pursue another career path for the rest of my life in order to make ends meet, I would be very unhappy and hopless. I want to go through life doing something I love, make an impact on people and show people how diverse one artist can be. I want to share my life experiences and help others share theirs through songwriting.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a songwriter and artist. My main genre is dancehall and reggae. I am an upcoming artist, I am currently in school so it has been a little harder to focus on both but where I am right now is nowhere close to where I want to be, Along the way there will be challenges for sure but based on what I’ve seen so far, everybody wants to be an artist, due to social media it has been easier for some than others, but a challenge is not considering what others think and blocking out the noise, but if your an artist or creative people are always going to have negative things to say, always, and it will hurt but when you finally strive and meet your goal those are the same ones that will love and praise you, so over coming this challenge I’d say is to keep doing what your doing and block out the noise. I just want the world to see what I am capable of, I want them to hear good music, they don’t even have to know me haha, but even if it’s something I write for someone else whether it may be reggae or pop or rnb, the world has to hear it. I don’t want to be put in a box, even though I am not where I want to be, sooner than later people will see more from me.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I’m being quite honest there are a lot of places that I don’t know. In the daytime I’d usually cook breakfast unless they want to eat out I’d take them to a restaurant ( that I’ve been to twice), during the day I’d try to find something fun to do whether it’s dirt back riding, skating, bowling, gaming arcade with drinks, stand up comedy shows. Depending on the day I’d go take them to a club or a party at night. These are things i’d have to figure to figure out before they get here because the things I do are very limited haha, but they would definitely have a good time.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Jaime Hinckson for sure, he saw the talent I had, we worked on a project together and he will definitely be a stepping stone for sure

Claudine Haughton my mother, number one fan, I got all my creative abilities from her, and she’s always supported me.

Rohan Maragh my other number one fan, my father, one of my biggest supporters, plays a huge role in my music career, and without him it would be 10 times as hard.

Will Castle – Fantastic producer and engineer, have worked together on a couple projects, he sees my vision and we work well together

Sean Wedderburn- Engineer on upcoming reggae album

Daniel Brown- Good Friend, and does a lot of visuals and animation for me.
