We had the good fortune of connecting with Wolfgang Weber and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Wolfgang, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
When COVID struck the world in early 2020, it had an enormous impact on my mindset regarding “work/life balance”. When you’re worried for your own health, as well as all of your loved ones, you are quickly reminded what’s important in life. I took that opportunity to depart from 14-years of military service and move forward with creating my own business that allowed me greater flexibility in my life using the increased remote opportunities that became available as a result of the pandemic.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
START OF MY BUSINESS:

It started when I helped a friend receive a $16,000 raise …

On a daily basis, the people we love are getting taken advantage of in the corporate world because they haven’t been taught to properly negotiate their proper value. Far too many people work day in and day out being compensated far less than they deserve.

My business, Wolf Negotiations (WolfNegotiations.com), is a Denver based company that’s sole focus is to help people all over the world push back using proven negotiation techniques – to get a proper raise, to negotiate a new job, or simply to learn how to negotiate various life deals to ensure they are getting the most money and benefits out of their situation. We help people push past the anxieties and stresses involved with professional negotiations.

I previously worked as a Law and Negotiations professor, and through that process I began to realize more and more that these weren’t just esoteric concepts to be confined to the classroom … rather, they were strategies that should be used in every day life. In my free time, I found myself constantly helping friends and family members help navigate difficult conversations with supervisors and HR representatives. After getting one friend a $16,000 raise (and additional health care benefits!), it struck me that I needed to find a way to help more people.

CHALLENGES & LESSONS LEARNED

One of the biggest challenges I can remember is the constant nagging question that ran circles in my mind: “Am I good enough to start my own business?” What helped me overcome this fear was surrounding myself with supportive, loving people. It’s wild how empowering a truly supportive network can be – do not waste your time being around people who don’t actively want to see you succeed. Anytime I questioned my capabilities, I looked to them for support and they reminded me that my personal and professional experiences made me uniquely equipped to create a company like this. Believing in one’s self and not giving up is truly 90% of the battle.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Love this question.

1a) Nature – hike in Evergreen, Morrison, Golden, or another surrounding area. Bonus points if the hike is near running water.

1b) Skiing or snowshoeing – there’s always an opportunity to get outside in Colorado!

2) Red Rocks show – gotta take your friend to one of the greatest venues in the world!

3) Bike ride along Cherry Creek Path – most underrated feature of our amazing city!

4) Viewing the wall art at RINO and getting a coffee/pastry at one of the local shops.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mom. She worked day and night, sometimes 3 jobs at a time, to make sure we had enough food on the table and a roof over our heads. She gave me what I needed to earn an education and build a life for our family.
