Inspiration exists for me in many things, but sometimes the most simple things. The gift of life became the most profound blessing to me back in 2017 when I experienced respiratory failure and spent almost a week in a coma. I’ve always felt like 3 major things inspired me. The first being watching Vivienne Westwood fashion shows as a kid, I was so infatuated by her ability to mix Punk & broken things and make them look so beautiful and unique. I wanted to capture the same thing with photography! The 2nd that really pushed my eye into creating moments using the camera and a subject would be Quentin Tarantino specifically KillBill! I wanted to make photos look like fierce movie stills! The last thing that really inspired me was my Mom. I am definitely someone who doesn’t suffer from a lack of inspiration. I find it in simple things, like watching the light change in the morning while I drink my coffee, or smelling the lilacs in spring, but in my career I am continually inspired by my patients. It’s sometimes hard for me to believe that my job puts me in daily contact with some of the most inspiring people I can imagine. From people with chronic illness who are able to find joy in their day-to-day while suffering in a way that most of us can’t fathom, to someone who is simply trying to figure out who they are and what they are doing here and how that relates to their digestive problems.
