Meet Amanda Frederick | Registered Nurse & Somatic Relationship Coach

We had the good fortune of connecting with Amanda Frederick and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amanda, how do you think about risk?
I think risk taking is necessary for any type of growth. To me, being comfortable taking risks means having a solid relationship with the unknown because when we take a risk, there’s always going to be a bit of mystery on the other side of the decision. I have a very optimistic and “best case scenario,” attitude (which can at times be a detriment) but for risk taking this is what I lean into. Taking risks has allowed me to explored multiple passions like wellness nursing, somatic coaching, and reiki, which I now infuse into my offerings for others. Risk taking is also was brought me back to Colorado after having two kids and at the time I had no idea how we would make it work with my career, their schools, all the things, but I trusted that there would be something magical here for us.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve been a Registered Nurse since 2010 and worked primarily within behavioral health and procedural nursing for 7 years. My last position before having my oldest daughter was at Denver Health working on the Adult Psych unit. After having my children (ages 7 and 4) I decided I wanted more flexibility with my hours and more autonomy over my schedule. I also had been experiencing some postpartum depression and anxiety so I started doing breathwork. After a few sessions, I felt incredible and like I had found something really empowering and wanted to share this with others. I did a 7 month long breathwork facilitator training, followed by a 9 month somatic coaching certification to be able to start my own coaching business and offer the type of work that had been continuously changing my life for the better. I then completed a somatic sexology training to further my studies to support working with individuals and couples within the realm of intimacy. After having a successful coaching business and moving back to Colorado from Michigan, I decided I wanted to be more active in the community and not offer as many of my services virtually. I didn’t really know what that was going to look like but not too long ago, I accepted a position as a IV Therapy RN at a new wellness center in Boulder. It feels really good to be back in nursing, in a whole new, much more aligned way. The interesting part is that my first position as a RN in Colorado was directly across the street from my current one. 12 years later after a few cross country moves, having children, so many other changes etc, I’m back in the same magical pocket of Boulder I started in! I feels incredible to be working in the community in the realm of wellness, while also continuing to build my clientele here for individuals and couples work.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well I’m a snackaholic so I would first take my friend to Lucky’s Market to load up on all the amazing snacks and fizzy drinks for the week. Then I would go hiking at wonderland lake and mt. sanitas. We would hit the boulder creek to take a dip on the way to Nederland CO, where we would hike Mud Lake and then grab pizza at Crosscut Pizza. After that we would come back down to Boulder and get some IV therapy at Alive and Well before ending the night at Tonic on Pearl St. for some oxygen and kava tea!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My parents! Over the years, as I’ve been shifting and expanding within my career and role as a mother, my parents unwavering love and support has been foundational for supporting my journey.
