The idea: where or how did you come up with it?


Ideas aren’t everything, execution matters greatly, but starting often requires an idea and so we asked folks to think back and tell us the story of how they came up with the idea for their businesses. We’ve highlighted some of our favorite stories below.

I come from a family of entrepreneurs and I have a strong personality so I knew I needed to work for myself. I had a cleaning business for many years and I had always dreamed of opening a little store where everything was for sale: the art, the books , the decorations, etc. But I was unsure of what the main theme should be. While vacationing with my mom and sisters the summer of 2019 we stumbled into a tiny little shop completely full of plants and pots. I knew at that moment that was the kind of store I wanted to open. One of my various endeavors is being the owner Velvet Void Creations. Creating unique, 18+ , alternative home décor. As well as teaching craft classes in the Denver metro area. I originally taught myself how to knit in college, and that journey perked my interest in fiber arts. So then I thought myself to crochet, then needle felting, and macramé, and so on. Read more>>

I’ve always been captivated by the power of stories, especially those told through visuals. I started off with a company called storiesbymadi, where I specialized in filming weddings. As the company grew, I recognized the potential to extend services beyond weddings and into various industries. It became clear that a name change was necessary to reflect this broader vision because it wasn’t going to be stories by just Madi forever. Read more>>
