Meet Chris Vuk | Rock Violinist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Chris Vuk and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chris, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
My mom introduced me to the violin at the age of 6 years old. Through a childhood of playing music as a solo violinist, chamber musician, and orchestral player, pursuing a career as a musician seemed a logical choice when I entered college. Through a series of friendships I was introduced to a group of musicians who, alongside of myself would reform the award winning Boston String Quartet, where I enjoyed 10 years playing, 5 studio albums, and collaborations with artists around the world.

Entering my late 20’s, I became a father, and parental duties caused me to temporarily retire from the violin, and I became a small business owner, and alongside my wife, opened up 10 childcare centers in and around Boston MA.

After a period of soul searching during and after COVID, I made the decision to re-enter the music profession after my 5 year old son excitedly discovered an old YouTube video of me. With tours planned on three continents in 2025, I’m again pursuing music and performing for thousands of smiling faces across the globe.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I grew up as a classical violinist, but after moving to Boston and attending music conservatory, I transitioned to Berklee College of Music, where I began exploring contemporary music. Shortly after college, I toured the USA multiple times with artists Tim Janis, Giorgia Fumanti, and Zade Dirani. This experience left a lasting mark on me as I was inspired to pursue contemporary music such as rock, jazz and world music.

Shortly after, I restarted a group initially formed by the Boston Symphony Orchestra, called the Boston String Quartet. We toured nationally, and created original contemporary arrangements which we performed with orchestras around the country.

Now, as a solo artist, I create my own music and arrangements, attempting to reimagine what a violin can do through using loops, extended techniques on the violin, and alternate approaches to well known songs.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I personally love the natural landscape of Colorado. Some of my favorite places include Garden of the Gods, the Front Range Mountains in Boulder, and the Denver Botanical Gardens. Meow Wolf is of course a highlight, and catching a show or a game at Ball Arena is a treat as well!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My violin teacher from 25 years ago, Paul Manulik inspired me to be a violinist soloist, and despite other voices around me putting me down, never stopped encouraging and inspiring me to pursue my dream.
