We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Berdiales and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessica, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
It’s the only thing I was ever good at.

I wasn’t the brightest kid growing up with two foreign parents at home speaking Russian, Spanish, and broken English I felt like I could never understand anything especially when it came to school.

The one thing I was good at was painting with Bob Ross at home while he aird on PBS. Anything creative I was good at. Painting, sewing, sculpting, playing musical instruments. It made sense in my head because words did not.

I knew I wouldn’t be able to endure the challenges of college after failing miserably in Highschool… Although excelling in honors art… I still wouldn’t dare to. So I just decided to become an entrepreneur and start my own seamstress company as well as fine arts on Etsy, wich was very successful and then I eventually indulged in the world of body modification and became a tattoo artist.

Im extremely blessed to do tattoos full-time as well as my other crafts.
I’m living a constant life 24/7 filled with art.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I wouldn’t say my art sets me apart from anyone else. It’s simply cause I stay consistent.
With every painting I create I learn something different.
Note, that I’m completely self taught. I’m going off by what I think feels right or makes sense in my head.
There are no rules to art/music… I just want to fulfill something within me that no one can except my desire to create.

One of the hardest challenges is letting you’re feelings get the best of you.
From stopping you, enabling you, just wanting to give up.
So you stop. You simply stop creating and you fall into a dry spell…
Alas,
I do believe that that is a blessing in disguise because I feel like it alters the way you create, you start to do something different which ultimately starts to set your art apart because It’s changed. It’s not the same anymore. As nothing really is as life continues.

If there’s something that I could let the world know.
Everything always works out, learn to understand it. Believe that there’s a reason for everything that is dealt to you, give in for a little bit, embrace it, rest, and then continue because Life doesn’t stop. You simply decide.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m a huge sucker for camping. I’ve got this great map that I’ve created over the years with hidden spots and off-road trails leading to some of the most beautiful isolated grounds in Colorado and twelve different states.

I’ve invested in building out one of my favorite projects which is my off-road truck. This rig allows me to sleep, cook, travel off-road and pretty much everything you need to just run away while staying comfortable.

I prefer to spend my time alone, unless I’m with a dear friend or a significant other. The more away from people I can be The more blissful my life seems to become.
You really start to appreciate the simplicities of life when you’re out in the middle of nowhere with no one around.
Decompression away from everything is when you discoverer the most about yourself and about others.

That being said, the perfect get away would be a road trip though some national parks, sitting by a river around a campfire, with my guitar, good food, and water.
Week long camping trips are great a month long ones are even better.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There’s a few.

My mentor Payer for helping me get started in the tattoo industry which ultimately intertwined me with a very important human who I call one of my soul mates, Canine.

Who has helped guide me though so many series of my life. I can honestly say I wouldn’t be here today if it weren’t for him.

With every unfortunate hand delt to me, there was always someone I could reach out to in that moment.

Thank you Payer, Canine, Kai and my mother. For saving my life.
