We had the good fortune of connecting with Marc Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marc, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
My trajectory in life really began to show itself in my early teens as I was constantly drawing everything! I began with cars and airplanes, going on to animals and people, and then buildings and ships. Whenever I was to study or read, I would be secretly drawing. Since reading for me has been a challenge throughout my life, I found art was my outlet and passion. I went to a Junior College at night so I could work during the day. I got great grades and secured an Art Scholarship to Syracuse University, graduating in 1974.
For the next 41 years, I had many jobs and created several businesses but was also constantly painting, making art all the time. In 2015, I took an early retirement and never looked back, pursuing my art finally, full time! My art has been the defining constant in my life! My need is to express on canvas what I see, feel, and love!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets me apart from other artists is that I truly live my art. My art is the story of my life! I have two primary subjects for my art both of which continue to be integral parts of my life. They are basically Landscapes and Automotive Art. My Landscape Art is made up of places I’ve been, hiked, and have fished. I am a true outdoorsman having climbed many mountains over 14,00ft in elevation in Colorado. I have also lived for 8 years at 10,770 ft working for the University of Denver as Resident Manager for the High Altitude Lab and Meyer-Womble Observatory at Mt Evans’ summit. I believe that this gives me a unique perspective not many people possess. On my automotive side, I have had a love affair with cars and motorcycles since my childhood. At age 14, I built my own motorbike which has helped pave the way to complete restoration of several vintage cars, my latest being a 1986 Porsche 944 Turbo. In 2017 I was invited to be part of a 14 artist nationwide traveling art exhibition displaying automotive and motorcycle art called LUSTER! Luster opened in Daytona Beach FL in 2018 and continues its tour to 2023. It was never easy making money from art. In fact, for most of my life I held a regular job in construction, building maintenance and property management. Throughout this time, I would consistently have a painting I was working on during evenings and weekends. Several years ago, I took an early retirement and have been painting fulltime ever since!! Sales of my work have been climbing as well!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If it is summer a must do would be a concert at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison, CO. It is the best outdoor venue in the World!!!If it is winter, then a trip up I70 to Loveland Ski Area will echo a giant YES!! If is warm, a trip up to Rocky Mountain National Park which has an abundance of trails and scenery would be in order! Best place to eat, hands down would be our home! My wife and I are excellent chefs, and we enjoy entertaining around the table, however if you are out and about a great place for a drink and a appetizer would be Door 222 in downtown Loveland.
Every second Friday of each month in Loveland is ‘Night on the Town”. When all the art galleries are open late along with all the bars and eateries. All are within walking distance of Downtown Loveland, Colorado.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shoutout must go to David J. Wagner and his company, David J. Wagner, L.L.C. which has taken my art to places that I would have never imagined! My artistic subjects for some time have been primarily landscapes and automobiles, produced in a highly realistic manner, some would say hyperrealistic manner. I was introduced to David online through another automotive artist, Harold Zabady. who told me that David was assembling a nationwide travelling Art Exhibition of Automobile and Motorcycle Art and asked me if I wanted to be included. Well, of course!! Over the next several months, I created acrylic paintings for the exhibition. Throughout the process, David’s advice and honesty helped me to produce 3 wonderful paintings for the exhibition. The LUSTER Exhibition debut was March 10, 2018, in Daytona Beach FL, at the Museum of Arts and Sciences, and continues its 16 state tour through 2023.
