We had the good fortune of connecting with Bridget Sanchez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bridget, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My journey began with recognizing a significant gap in our community—the need for more Latino & Spanish-Speaking mental health providers. I saw firsthand as a clinician how the lack of culturally and linguistically appropriate care negatively impacted our community. This inspired me to create a solution that would address this disparity while empowering others to make a meaningful difference.
I’ve always been passionate about mental health and healthcare access equity. Combining these passions with my background in nonprofit leadership allowed me to channel my energy into creating the Latinx Therapist Project, a space where we can support aspiring Latino therapists and, in turn, improve mental health outcomes in our communities.
I realized that many Latino individuals face barriers to entering the mental health field, such as financial challenges, lack of mentorship, and limited awareness about career pathways. My thought process was to build an organization that not only supports these individuals but also works collaboratively with community partners to inspire the next generation of mental health providers.”
My vision was to build a community movement to change the narrative about who can be a mental health provider. The goal was to foster a community where Latino therapists feel supported and empowered, while also addressing the larger systemic issues in mental health care access.”
Starting this nonprofit was a deeply intentional and meaningful decision. It’s rooted in the commitment to create opportunities for others, building community, and addressing a critical need that will have a lasting impact.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We are most proud of the work we are doing in the community and the lives we are impacting! We are the only nonprofit in the country whose sole mission is to increase the number of Latinos becoming mental health clinicians, and that distinction fills us with pride and purpose.
I think about all the wonderful Latinos we’ve helped—whether it’s inspiring someone to make the decision to become a therapist, supporting them through the process of getting into graduate programs, or guiding them through their journey in graduate school. Every story of success, every milestone reached, reminds us why this work matters so deeply.
What I want the world to know about our story is that the Latinx Therapist Project isn’t just about increasing representation in mental health—it’s about creating a ripple effect. By supporting Latino therapists, we’re addressing the mental health disparities that affect our community, one clinician and one client at a time. Our work is a celebration of resilience, culture, and the belief that everyone deserves care that understands them!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting, I’d start by taking them to my favorite park in Denver—Cheesman Park. It’s such a peaceful and beautiful spot, perfect for a walk or just soaking in the atmosphere.
For meals, we’d go to my favorite restaurants! La Abeja for its delicious and authentic Mexican food, Tasty Thai for some of the best Thai dishes in town, and Gyro Town for my favorite Mediterranean food!
To end the days on a high note, we’d go dancing at my favorite spots! Blue Ice has great music and a fun vibe, La Rumba is always lively with incredible Latin music, and The Grizzly Rose for a country twist.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to dedicate this shoutout to all the wonderful mentors, uplifters, supporters, and loved ones in our community. Without their guidance, encouragement, and belief in the potential of others, none of this would be possible. It’s the collective strength, wisdom, and love of our community that inspires me every day to keep pushing forward and creating opportunities for those who come after us. This journey is not just mine—it’s a reflection of all the hands that have lifted me and so many others along the way. SHOUTOUT to you all!
