We had the good fortune of connecting with Kaytee Shashore and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kaytee, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Wow, this is such a great question with many layers to it. To truly answer this, let’s travel back to 2009. At 22, I was a woman brimming with dreams, inspired by a book I read by Kimora Lee Simmons. Reflecting on your question during this interview process with your online publication 15 years later feels like such a full-circle moment for me. My journey began in 2009 when I started an online magazine called The Sexy Side of Colorado, which launched me into the entertainment industry with incredible momentum. Becoming an “influencer” or, as some in Colorado call me, a “local celebrity,” was a natural progression. I continue to work tirelessly to honor the promise I made to my mother in 2009 when I started my journey, who has since passed. That promise was to leave behind a legacy for our family. Since my mother has passed my daughter Ava and husband Yonathan are the driving force behind everything I do. So to be honest my thought process with business and my brand in 2009 was to become famous and wealthy. My thought process behind my brand as a content creator now in 2024 is to leave behind a legacy and generational wealth for my daughter. My daughter changed my trajectory for sure. But I still maintain the same directive. Make my family proud of me and show them
anything we dream of is possible.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As a content creator and social media influencer, my career has been a journey of passion and perseverance. In 2009, reading Kimora Lee Simmons’ book ignited a fire within me, making me realize my destiny for greatness. I launched an online magazine that marked the beginning of my path as a business owner and creative in the entertainment and fashion industry. Collaborating with fashion shows, models, businesses in Colorado, photographers, radio personalities, celebrities, DJs, and local designers laid the groundwork for my success as a content creator. Although this wasn’t my original plan, the unexpected twists have been incredible. The road was challenging, and I faced skepticism from those closest to me, which was painful. Yet, this doubt fueled my determination to persevere and never give up. Launching an online publication back when it was rare posed its own difficulties, but social media became my powerful promotional tool, leading to the presence I cherish today. This presence allows me to collaborate with remarkable brands and monetize my platforms—a true blessing. One of my standout achievements this year was teaming up with my dear friend Denise Vasi, creating content for her brand, Maed Beauty, which is quickly gaining momentum since its launch in Fall 2024. I must also acknowledge our incredible group of VIP Maed Beauties, whose unwavering support has been life-changing and inspiring. You ladies know just how much your support means. To Denise Harris a very special VIP Maed Beauty this interview is in your honor. You will forever be missed.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Colorado is an absolutely stunning place to call home, offering a rich tapestry of activities and adventures. The majestic Rocky Mountains are undoubtedly the crown jewels of this state, with iconic destinations like Aspen, Vail, Breckenridge, and Georgetown that beckon visitors with their breathtaking landscapes and charming alpine vibes. Each of these mountain towns boasts unique characteristics, from Aspen’s glitzy atmosphere to Breckenridge’s historic charm.
No visit would be complete without experiencing the vibrant energy of downtown Denver, where the nightlife pulses with excitement. Whether it’s indulging in local cuisine, exploring trendy bars, or enjoying live music, the city offers an exhilarating array of options that cater to every taste.
Additionally, I would take my friend to explore one of our stunning national parks, where nature’s beauty unfolds in every direction. With sprawling vistas, serene lakes, and lush forests, the scenery here is nothing short of mesmerizing, offering the perfect backdrop for unforgettable memories.
Truly, Colorado is a paradise for both adventure seekers and nature lovers alike.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
This question carries many layers. There are countless individuals who have contributed to my journey as an influencer. For the sake of brevity, I’ll highlight a few key people. My mother stands out as a pillar of strength; the thought of her pride brings tears to my eyes as I reflect on how far I’ve come in pursuing my dreams. She was truly my cheerleader, the wind beneath my wings. My daughter Ava and my husband Yonathan are also crucial to my success, providing unwavering support when the road gets tough. The book Fabulousity by Kimora Lee Simmons ignited my passion, so it deserves mention. My mom’s best friend, Mama Val, has always believed in me, offering invaluable help with TSSOC. Speaking of TSSOC, I must acknowledge the entire team behind that magazine; you know who you are, and I love and appreciate you all. My dear friend Kingdom, a local radio personality, has been a constant source of support and belief in my potential. My best friends Camille and Julia are my steadfast cheerleaders. Top Flite Empire and DJ Big Spade have also provided vital support along the way. While so many have played a role, these individuals are the very bricks of my foundation.
