Meet George Peebles | Owner of Silver Flask Fishing

We had the good fortune of connecting with George Peebles and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi George, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I remember when I started my own business like it was yesterday. I grew up fishing since the age of 2 in Wisconsin taught by my father. I have always had the blessing of finding time to get out fishing whenever I could for the last 38 years. Being in the wilderness and specifically fishing has always been my outlet to feeling connected to something larger. I received my undergraduate and graduate degrees in professional communications and technical writing at University Wisconsin Stout. After College I dabbled in some guiding with a friend in Wisconsin while working as a Corporate Accounts Manager for Freightliner. I quickly noticed that the money was good in the corporate world but my passion of fishing was calling. I moved to Colorado in 2015 and little did I know the journey to starting my own business had begun. I started by working for other companies introducing my fishing and professional skills. Before I knew it I was promoted to managing these local companies. In my second managerial role I started to realize all the positive feedback I was getting from the community and clients but not from my employers. I was being put through the ringer physically and mentally so I decided it was my time to shine. I said to myself I am going to do this and I am going to make an impact in my new community and in this world for people of all ages through teaching the skill of fishing. In 2017 I started Silver Flask Fishing and the rest is history.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Silver Flask Fishing is located in Dillon, Colorado and provides guided fishing trips on Lake Dillon, catering to both beginners and seasoned anglers. Dedicated to creating educational and memorable adventures, the service ensures that every angler is equipped with the necessary gear and receives expert instruction.
I have built a strong reputation for quality and professionalism, delivering personalized fishing trips tailored to individual preferences. I specialize in targeting species such as brown trout, rainbow trout, kokanee salmon, and arctic char. My extensive knowledge of local fishing techniques and commitment to exceptional service have earned highly favorable reviews from anglers of all skill levels.
Silver Flask Fishing offers guided tours year-round, designed to make the most of Lake Dillon’s remarkable setting and thriving fish populations. All fishing trips are available from sunrise to sunset in 3 hour intervals.
Fly fishing trips on Lake Dillon provide a dynamic and engaging experience, surrounded by the breathtaking Rocky Mountain landscape. Suitable for all ages and skill levels, these trips emphasize learning and enjoyment, encouraging anglers to embrace the joy of the water. Whether I am introducing new techniques or navigating changing conditions I foster a positive and team-oriented atmosphere, ensuring every moment for my clients on the lake is enjoyable and rewarding.
Pontoon fishing charters offer a unique opportunity to explore Lake Dillon at 9,000 feet from the comfort of a spacious and well-equipped boat. These trips are ideal for families or groups seeking a shared fishing experience. The pontoon boat accommodates up to ten people, providing an excellent option for those combining fishing with scenic lake views.
The main 4 things I like to teach from the start of the lessons are:
1. Be safe
2. Have fun
3 . Learn something new
4. Want to fish again after the lesson on your own
Catching or seeing fish is always a bonus to the process but should not be why you are fishing. Learning to disconnect and take it all in is most important. I like to refer to it as outdoor therapy. Listen to birds chirping, the river flowing, and the trees in the breeze as you take it all in. Teaching people that the act of fishing in itself is something that anyone can learn if they keep an open heart and mind.
Ups and downs are all apart of owning your own business. For me when the ups outweigh the downs I know I am making a difference in this world with my Outfitter. Seeing peoples reactions when I drill a hole on the ice, or teach them a roll cast on a fly rod is a huge drive for me to give the best costumer service and keep spreading the fishing love. I have always been a people person and when I made the connection of teaching fishing and just being George things definitely clicked.
Silver Flask Fishing provides an ideal way to relax, learn, and make lasting memories in the heart of Colorado’s stunning Rocky Mountains, I invite you to come check it out, bring your family and friends!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Red Rocks offers incredible music in Morrison Colorado.
There are a variety of hot springs that are well worth checking out.
Local breweries and distilleries for a drink or lunch.
Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs for hiking.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First I would have to shout out my father may he rest in peace. He taught me many life skills but fishing has to be the most influential and impacting on my life and those I teach.
I also would like to thank all the people in the Colorado community that have supported my business from the local school districts, 4-H chapter, Colorado Parks and Wildlife, wounded warriors, veterans, Dillon Marina, and surrounding municipals and towns.
Huge shout out to all of our supporters and clients from around the world! You have made my dream come true to teach people how to fish on boat, from shore, on the ice or on the fly rod.
