We had the good fortune of connecting with Dawn Hager and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dawn, how does your business help the community?
I believe, and hope that my services allow women the opportunity to find themselves (physically, and emotionally) after birth and through the motherhood transition in a slower fashion which many not be acceptable to the rest of society. I give them permission to re connect to themselves and listen to what their body needs. I provide a safe space for this process and remind them slow is fast. We move, we rehab, we breath, and we reconnect. Sadly, social media displays unrealistic expectations for women in the Postpartum period to return to looking how they did before having a baby and often times looking better. It’s not always about looking better but FEELING better. I’ve always wanted to change and relinquish those silent pressures women feel. Romans 12:2 “Do not conform to the patterns of this world, but be renewed by the transforming of your mind”

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
During my first pregnancy, as I was working out something felt off. The movements I was doing in my regular CrossFit workouts seemed extreme for pregnancy. I began searching around for intentional training during pregnancy and came across BIRTHFIT. I was able to learn a lot about the womens body in pregnancy, the core and Pelvic Floor and how to train intentionally for birth. BIRTHFIT taught me to change my mindset into training for birth, and not for the next competition. Moving into my first labor, that ended up being 50 hrs. I realized I had implemented a little too late, and had a lot to learn! I proceeded to follow BIRTHFIT’s postpartum programs as I healed from labor and transitioned to Motherhood. I wanted all the women of Northern Colorado to learn what I did so I began teaching workshops, after certifying as a BF Coach. Over the last 8 years, I have grown so much in my own Motherhood journey, and learned that a lot of what is needed is time, a safe space, and a knowledgeable trainer who understands the body, movement, pregnancy and postpartum. As Mothers, we go go go. So much of our nervous system handles our kids, house and husbands. We are typically stripped when it comes to giving back to ourselves. I am able to provide a safe space for mothers to find themselves again and re-connect with their bodies. Establish strength, and balance, and proper movement patterns. Teaching women to reconnect with their pelvic floor and core, and nervous system provides so much growth and change across their whole bodies. We grow life inside for 9 months, then we birth a human out of our bodies, then we nourish that human. It’s time to give that time back to women and heal from the inside out.

I still wouldn’t consider myself “successful”, I have a lot of growing to do but my focus the last eight years has been to mother my own kids. As my kids get older, I am looking forward to building my business and reaching more women through workshops, and hosting classes and continuing with semi private sessions and private sessions. My biggest challenge has been to find a balance in being a mom and wanting to help other mamas, to be honest it’s a daily struggle. I’ve learned to trust the process and know that I am right where I am suppose to be. Success isn’t defined by the money you have, the house you live in, or the clothes you wear. It’s defined by how many lives you change and impact!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
For sure VAIL! A few nights exploring Vail would stay at the Sonnelap! Hang in their Spa and do some shopping! I think moving on to Denver to catch either a Rockies or Broncos game, not that I am a broncos fan but live football is the best. We would stay at the Hyatt in Denver and do some more shopping in Cherry Creek. Then make our way to Boulder and stay at the St. Julien for another Spa day and shopping! Oh, and hike flat irons! I am a California girl, so I don’t know a lot of the amazing places in CO but I do love the mountains and to SHOP! Imma shop in the morning type of girl, and go ride my horse in the afternoon, so I am happy doing many things! I also love exploring all the other CrossFit gyms in Colorado and working out with fellow coaches and athletes! This is assuming I have a sitter for my kids -lol.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
BIRTHFIT, CrossFit, Tender Gifts Midwifery & Birth Center, Insight Pelvic Health. All of these organizations have played a significant role in my business continuing to grow. Dr. Alexia Inhulsen w/ Peake Wellness, Dr. Jaci Shorling w/Natural Living Chiropractic, Dr. Tiffany Wall with New Beginngings Chiro. Oh my gosh, my list is never ending.. I am very well supported and encouraged in this area by many other practitioners helping women through pregnancy and birth. I am truly blessed in that area!
