We had the good fortune of connecting with Raybecca Morton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Raybecca, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
I enjoy constantly looking for new experiences and perspectives. Trying to get outdoors as much as I can, I look for inspiration in the new growth each year brings and the wildlife that comes to enjoy it with me. My goal with my photography is to share my adventures with others and encourage people to slow down by looking at things a little differently.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a local artist based in Colorado and photography has long been a hobby of mine, but creating art has always been my passion. I started out as one of those kids on the soccer fields admiring the flowers and finally my parents enrolled me in art after school. I enjoyed trying new things and painting most of all for a while, but I was always a perfectionist. That’s when I really discovered photography, and how nature in itself is perfect. It doesn’t need any adjustments or edits, though I try, all I really do is enhance and showcase what was already there. Of course, there is no one straight path to becoming a photographer and I still call myself an amateur, I have enjoyed finally putting aside imperfection to showcase my art and I am excited for what the future brings,

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Coming to visit Colorado for a trip is never boring. There are always events to join either at local parks or museums. If I were to give an itinerary, however, I would suggest visiting Glennwood Springs. The location is well known for its mineral hot springs and incredible views, especially in the fall. After enjoying a soak, heading towards Denver is Winter Park. There are plenty of more affordable places to stay with amenities like hot tubs and great spots to eat nearby. Colorado is never short of amazing restaurants. There is also a free gondola, numerous trails leading to beautiful views, and even some art on display on Fraser River Trail. The winter activities are equally as plentiful with skiing, snowboarding, sledding, or snowshoeing it always makes for an adventure packed weekend. In Denver, the Art Museum is a nice change of pace and a must see. After winding down, Lingers is a fun spot to stop for dinner trendy rooftop dinner, and Little Man’s Ice Cream is nearby for dessert. Denver also has lots of fun coffee shops and cafes to check out for breakfast and lunch. Even without such an itinerary though, there is always a fun new adventure (or free event) to check out.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I recently joined Artworks at Southglenn gallery and artist’s gift shop, and I am so grateful to be surrounded by a group of such talented and unique artists. There are now 15 artists of all different mediums from metal work to fabric creations, and now photography. The physical location showcases all of the art and hosts classes and events every month. I’m so excited to learn and grow with such an amazing group!
