Meet Ephiny Chewning | Business Owner and FT Student

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ephiny Chewning and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ephiny, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
About three years ago now, I started to find a love for crafting, and quickly realized other people enjoyed what I was making as well! I had always loved scrapbooking with my mom, but I quickly found my way into resin, and jewelry making, and started posting photos of my work, just to show off! When posting those photos, I always had major support for creations, and it was finally my mom that said I should full send it. So, I did. I got my logo, I made my Instagram, and the outpour of love and support was so amazing, I just continued! So long story short; it was a love for crafting from a very young age that pushed me to do it not just for me, but for others as well!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a full time student, full time manager, AND a full time small business owner! I work 40+ hours a week at my day job, on top of studying to become a Forensic Analyst, and making all of my jewelry and trinkets with love. With that being said, obviously there have been so many challenges. Between physical and mental illness, major doubt, burnout, and so much else it has been a climb, but I wouldn’t ever change it for the world. This little adventure of mine that I am still exploring has taught me some valuable things. I have learned that yes, you will get tired, and there are times where it will feel like the fight you’re putting up isn’t worth it, but in the end, it really is. I have learned a lot from my journey thus far. Between humility, perseverance, and patience, it feels like I have been through every emotion; but it is so worth it. Creating something that brings not only you joy, but others as well, is an amazing feeling, and one I will cherish forever.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Me and my best friend (thankfully) live in the same town, and we have a few key spots we frequent! One of our favorites is The Block at Downtown Fort Walton Beach, where we often do karaoke, and hang out with our other friends! The beach is a close second, the beautiful crystal clear waters of Destin (aka The Emerald Coast) are always a sight for sore eyes, and a great way to cool down in the Florida heat!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wanna dedicate this to all my small business friends who continued to help me through this journey. Specifically, my best friends, who have always been my #1 supporters, and my mom, @WhiteDragon_Healing, who got me into crafting in the first place.
