We had the good fortune of connecting with Emily Lamont and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Emily, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Entrepreneurship was never something I even knew existed when I was a child. It was always the idea that I would go to collage, get a corporate job and climb my way up. I think I would even say I fell into the idea of owning my own business by chance – I was a stay at home mom with an interest in capturing portraits of my children. Soon after I started sharing my pictures I had friends that would ask me to do their pictures and before I knew it I had my first LLC. Now I own two businesses and I love the challenge and joy that it brings me.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am most proud of my fearlessness in taking unsure opportunities. I am not always my own cheerleader and I don’t always have confidence in myself – but I take the leaps anyway. From picking up my camera for the first time to quilting my desk job and finally fulfill my childhood dream of becoming a chef, I have taken certain leaps of faith and bet on myself. These big decisions are never easy to make and self-doubt can often times bring our fears to the surface in ways we didn’t even know existed. We just have to put our chins up and work towards the goals we set for ourselves.

I am still developing my career story, and I think I always will because change is inevitable and so is the journey of owning your own business. Most importantly – I want to wake up every morning making the choice to be the best business owner that I can be for my clients, my family, and myself.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting the area – we would start by grabbing a cup of coffee. I love Tours Le Jour in Aurora, CO they have an eclectic array of pastries and delicious coffee. You can’t beat visiting some of the wonderful parks such as City Park, Wash Park, and many other fantastic spots. For lunch or even a snack – Lazos Empanadas are delicious! If we wanted to sit down I would take them to Denver Biscuit Co. For dinner – there are some amazing Asian spots such as Chopsticks Fusion and I would hands down take them to Work and Class.

For a day trip – Golden is always a place I take my visitors. The little town is such a joy to walk around with yummy food, ice cream and fun shops! I love going down by the river and the next person to come is definitely getting a tube ride down the river. I even got my grandfather to go down the slide to get down to the river (what a blast). They also have a great Farmers market.

If they are here for summertime vibes – a day at the pool followed by Jazz in the park is a must!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My clients deserve all of the credit when it comes to my story in owning businesses! This might be such a cliché answer but I get the most encouragement from those that choose to work with me. Where would any business be without the amazing clients that choose us to work with/for them.
