Meet Jonathan Greschler

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jonathan Greschler and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jonathan, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
After years inside the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment, I saw how overwhelming the unemployment process can be. I started my own practice to make it easier for people on both sides—workers and employers—to navigate it with confidence.
Greschler Unemployment Law Representation lets me focus on what I know best: Colorado unemployment cases. I love helping clients cut through the confusion, tell their story clearly, and move forward with the best possible outcome

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My practice is unique in Colorado,it’s entirely dedicated to unemployment law. I handle every aspect of it, including separations, overpayments, appeals, and independent contractor decisions. This is all I do, so my clients get deep, focused experience they won’t find elsewhere.
I represent both former employees and employers, and most every case is handled on a flat‑fee basis. Before the actual hearing, clients can take part in a simulated hearing with me, so they know what to expect and feel more comfortable when it really counts.
One thing I’m especially proud of from my time as a Hearing Officer is helping change an unfair law that once penalized former employees. At the time, if someone withdrew even a dollar from a retirement plan that included an employer match—even just a small one‑percent contribution for one year, the full amount in the retirement plan would by applied to very negatively imapact unemployment benefits. I rallied support for reform, and after two years of effort, the statute was changed. Now, only the amount the person actually withdraws, not being rolled into a diferent approved retirement fund, affects their benefits. Knowing that this change still helps people today is one of the most rewarding parts of my career.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One night we’ll hit Casa Bonita – It’s such a cool experience: cliff divers, an indoor waterfall, and a lot of intesreting nooks and crannies. It’s kind of a “you have to see it once” thing. Maybe for a lunch we can do City O’ City, which is this laid‑back, slightly artsy vegetarian place in Denver where the food’s solid and it’s easy to just sit, talk, and people‑watch. For something nicer, the Flagstaff House in Boulder, it’s more of a special‑occasion spot with absolutely great views.
For daytime stuff, I’d probably go to the Celestial Seasonings factory to the tatsing room and also to see the tea operation and that ridiculous mint room that basically punches you in the sinuses. In Denver, wander the Santa Fe art walk one evening, just popping into galleries and checking out murals and music at the Denver Arts Coopertaive. Speaking of murals, a RiNo mural walk. At night, I definitely want to go to a live music show, I am in the band Half Zen, and we support all local live music. Maybe at Roots Music Project in Boulder or The End at Dog House Music in Lafayette – both are smaller venues, easygoing, and good for catching local bands without it feeling like a big production.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
During my 16 years as a Hearing Officer, I met thousands of people, former employees and employers alike, who came into hearings nervous and unsure of what to expect. What I noticed right away was that everyone, no matter their situation, wanted to feel heard. Those experiences taught me how important it is to create an environment where both sides feel understood and supported, and to make what was a stressfull process for them as low‑stress as possible. My shout out is to all the former employees and employers for helping me learn to lower their stress and allow the opportunity for people to feel heard, even if I later disagreed in the decision.
