Meet John Robson: Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with John Robson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi John, what do you attribute your success to?
For me to be successful, I must be invested in the success of my clients. This starts with establishing a foundation for an ongoing professional relationship which is built on trust, collaboration and communication. As these relationships are strengthened we become successful together. I’d much rather continue to work with the same client rather than do a job that is once and done. It is my goal to create a relationship and art, not to do a job and merely chase a paycheck. 

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m proud for the opportunity to create art and tell visual stories about the sexy things in life; food, muses and hard workers. I take great pride in capturing the often overlooked and unseen moments of a person who puts his or her heart and soul into an art form or service. This is why I gravitate to chefs, makers and shakers. They give me the opportunity to intimately see inside their world and in exchange I get to give them a part of myself. A final product that makes them all the more desirable and memorable.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If they can make it through Covid, I’ll be visiting the Mountain Meadow Cafe in Allenspark for breakfast, have drinks at William Oliver’s and dinner at The Regional in Fort Collins.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My success as a freelancer starts with my former coworker, Becca Henry, provoking me enough to reach out to and work with Juli y Juan’s Kitchen. The love that Juli and Juan have shown me over the past four years and 50+ photoshoots has been the guiding force behind my passion for food and small business photography. Shoutouts must also go to Juli’s sister, my friend and muse, Laura Buitragoe; my mentor, James Victore, who teaches that in the particular lies the universal. That I’m not for everyone… only the sexy people.
