We had the good fortune of connecting with Kim Mattei and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kim, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Besides hard work and dedication, I believe that my success comes from the personal relationships that I build with my guests. To me, it is much more than their skin-it is the entire person. I love to get to know my guests on a more personal level to really connect with them and get to know them. I think a lot of people in the industry choose not to cross that professional line, but I don’t mind. I love that some of my guests have turned into my best friends!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a Licensed Aesthetician and the owner of Believe In Yourself Spa located in Arvada.

I do believe my personal relationships with my clients is what sets me apart from other businesses. I also believe that my philosophy of making skin care affordable to everyone really makes me different from many other spas. Good skin should not be a luxury, as it is so important for everyone to feel good in their own skin. I am very proud of the connections that I make with my clients. It is my number one goal to make them feel safe and comfortable in a sometimes vulnerable situation. Treating acne is my specialty and with acne comes the teenagers, which is my most favorite group of people ever! It is very hard being a teen these days and I will do whatever it takes to help them feel more confident. I will say that I have worked VERY hard over the past 10 years to get my business where it is. Being a business owner is not a 9-5 job. It is 24 hours a day! I am proud that my hard work has paid off but building full books did not come overnight for sure! I spent many days not making a dime, but I figured out what I needed to do to start building a clientele. Even after 10 years, there are challenges everyday, but I love what I do so much that even the challenges are fun!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I assume you mean in non covid times? Colorado is so amazing and I am not sure having a week here would even touch on all the cool things there are to do! I would for sure try to hit as many local restaurants and shops as possible! Jacks in Five Parks is one of my favorite local places for sure, so we would go there often! Old Town Arvada is a great place to walk around and grab a beer or a glass of wine or a dessert at Rheinlander Bakery Of course a trip to Colorado would not be complete if we didn’t visit Red Rocks. That place is heaven on earth! The Acreage by Stem Ciders is so good and they have amazing beer and food! Besides a quick jaunt to Estes or Breckenridge, I think we’d stay close to Arvada/Golden area to take in those sites!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have so many people to thank for my success and it is hard to narrow it down! I certainly would not be where I am without them! First and foremost, my husband and kids. My husband, Greg, has always been supportive of me since I started my career. My kids, Sydney and Carson, have been wonderful and have dealt well with people coming in and out of our home for the past 10 years. I am so thankful to my parents who taught me the values of honesty, hard work and perseverance. They have always helped me “believe in myself” when I was having doubts. I am blessed with amazing friends who support me and who have helped me grow this business from the ground up. My Business Coach, Katherine Patterson, has played a large part in me growing my business and pushing me out of my comfort zone. I am of course so thankful for my wonderful guests who continue to come into the spa and trust me. Without them I would be nothing!
