Meet Madelyn Hadel: Creator behind Rebellelion

We had the good fortune of connecting with Madelyn Hadel and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Madelyn, what do you attribute your success to?
Rebellelion’s commitment to ethically made & sustainable fashion is absolutely essential to the success of the brand. I have limited access to supplies when I only shop from companies that align with Rebellelion’s ethos, but it’s exciting that so many of the brands I get my supplies from are pioneers in eco-friendly production. There are many situations in which I could make larger profit margins if I didn’t purchase ethically & sustainably. There are many processes of recycling materials that can be so tedious and time consuming. Some may have the perspective that it is simply more expensive & more labor intensive to run an ethical brand, and therefore it isn’t worth the effort. My perspective is that the environment and the people are absolutely worth the effort & investment, I’m not afraid of hard work.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Rebellelion has always been known for one-of-a-kind upcycled denim pieces and that will always be the core of what I do. However, that can be very limiting in size accessibility and style diversity when I can only make one piece at a time. This Spring I’m launching a line of biker shorts & leggings that are printed locally and made from eco-friendly Repreve fabric that is made from recycled plastic bottles! They will be available in a diverse size range from XS-8X and will allow customers to customize their own pair by choosing which fabric patterns they want to mix & match.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love a day out when you can easily get from one location to the next just by walking! I would start in the SoBo neighborhood at the Colorado History Museum, they have so many beautiful & interactive exhibits! Next, we would walk across the street to Zep’s Epiq Sandwiches for lunch. My favorite is the “Wanderlust” with fried chicken, maple bacon & apple jalapeno slaw paired with a Boylan’s Cream Soda. Next we’d cross over to the Art Hotel & check-out all of the cool artwork on our way up to the rooftop Fire lounge! It has a gorgeous view of the city & outdoor fire pit. I’d recommend the Jackson Polluck martini, a little sweet & a little savory! Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Robyn Premo is a teacher & a mother who wanted to inspire creativity in play beyond plastic toys & flashing lights. She created a shop called Holly & Honey (https://www.etsy.com/shop/HollyandHoneyShop) that specializes in hand painted wooden peg dolls. She releases new collections monthly but also takes custom orders to create something truly one of a kind!
