Meet Regan L. Rouse | Heartfelt Photographer & Writer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Regan L. Rouse and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Regan L., why did you pursue a creative career?
I love this question because the answer, while remaining true over the course of my career, has shifted many times as I have evolved. Not just as a photographer, but from the time I discovered photography at a young age, throughout my education and now as a mother. It is a language I am always speaking. I am not sure that I could have escaped it. There is passion in this kind of artistic language and it has connected me to my clients & family and taken on a life of its own.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What sets me apart from others, particularly in this industry that is full of truly talented people, is my attention to each clients individuality and my desire to connect authentically. I am not just interested in a time slot that results in the same images over and over again. I want to focus in on the unique qualities of each family and tell their story in a language that really feels like them. That is why I spend a great deal of time connecting before we even begin our session. Photography has become so much more than just a snapshot, it is storytelling. As for the challenges, nothing worth doing is ever easy. There is consistent learning, stumbling and regaining your balance. I think the only way we really overcome challenges is to keep going. For me there really is no other way but through. My brand and story are always evolving, particularly this past year with the challenges of Covid, isolation and a genuine fear of the unknown. I have found it even more important to reach out, remain open, to listen a little longer and to give people the space (literally and figuratively) to express themselves. It has allowed for some really amazing moments of artistic expression.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh wow, this is another great question. Denver is an incredible city, full of history and art and really (really) good food. The pandemic has sadly affected so many businesses, but I am amazed by how hard they have hustled and how creatively they have handled the setbacks. The Ramble Hotel is a spot I always suggest to incoming friends and clients who are looking for a place to stay. This gorgeous hotel has an amazing bar in the lobby (Death & CO.) with delicious food as well. It is just down the road from the Central Market, nestled in Rhino, with easy access to other shops, restaurants, and pop ups. Speaking of which, no friend of mine spends any time in Denver without visiting Pickletown Flower Company. The owner Jessica is a friend and someone I am always looking to support. Her pop ups are all over the city, but she also holds space in Free Market Denver. While you’re there, you can check out any number of awesome vendors and feed your face too.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
This is such a wonderful and important question, also how much time do you have? Every client that has ever trusted me with their intimate lives and welcomed me in to capture it. There is a lot of trust there and it just gets deeper each year that I continue doing this job. My family, of course, and this year it feels really important to shout out to the amazing crew of women that have rallied behind me through years of learning and moving around. They know who they are.
