We had the good fortune of connecting with Julia Scott and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Julia, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Blue Bridal has made a positive impact on the bridal industry in Denver for almost 12 years now, and some of our constant values have been providing quality wedding gowns and the most genuine customer service possible to our customers. When I became manager 8 years ago, it was most important to me for the customer to have all of the facts and information up front in order to make sound decisions with their wedding dress! I noticed in my experience that a lot of boutiques in the area represent a much more pushy, sales environment, and in receiving feedback from thousands of brides over the years, this is not ideal for any customer choosing a garment they will wear on one of the most special days of their life. Keeping them informed, whilst providing a fun + laid-back experience, has created a word-of-mouth system we could have only dreamed of. What also makes us so successful is providing wedding dresses that encompass quality, without breaking the bank, and if it fits great and looks great, then designer names tend not to matter as much. It’s important as a retailer to recognize that weddings are incredibly expensive, and that budgets do exist and should be respected. So many of our brides are shocked by our prices (in the best way!) because they did not realize that such beautiful gowns are out there at amazing prices.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My journey to where I am today hasn’t been bumpy per say, but it’s definitely had its’ challenges in acclimating to the customer, the industry, and finding out who I am. I’ve been a very independent person throughout my life, I actually don’t have a large group of friends, I tend to attach myself to a special few that uplift + love me for who I am. I grew up as a Girl Scout (into my high school years) and I can honestly say I think growing up with respect to giving back to the community and taking care of others has shaped me into a better adult with stronger values. I’d like to say I have evolved into a jack of all trades, as I was entrusted with the reigns to run this small business mostly on my own from the beginning, which although stressful, gave me tough skin. The moment in becoming manager of Blue was a pivotal point in my life, it gave me responsibility and a sense of importance that I wasn’t sure I was really worthy of, but I was ready to make a difference. I truly thrive by connecting with my brides on a more personal level – just scratching the surface with chit chat isn’t really my forte. I try my hardest to provide a 10 star experience to every bride that I meet, but I think my biggest challenge has been that sometimes my best is not good enough for some. It’s not a common occurance, but I’ve found it sits in my mind longer than it should, and in order to manage ones sanity, you have to leave work at the door.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love this! I am a Colorado Native, so everything about my state is special to me! My favorite happy place is at Red Rocks Ampitheater, go for a hike around, then head to the Highlands and hit Happy Camper and Avanti’s for food + drinks!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My success story is a combination of support from my family and friends, my incredible boss + mentor Sarah, and teaking a leap of faith and following my passion to make a difference in the fashion industry by attending Colorado State University’s Apparel + Merchandising program.
