We had the good fortune of connecting with Taybor Guokas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Taybor, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was figuring all of the ways I could come forth and help clients in the way that I see best fit for them in my own way with all of the knowledge I have in this field. Of course there are so many people in this ever evolving industry that have been in the game way longer than I have, but I hoped to bring my view on things into the mix and figured I would be a handful of client’s glass of wine (or shot of whiskey if that’s what they prefer)! I wanted to bring to life everything I had dreamed of having from the moment I enrolled in esthetics school. I didn’t have a timeline as to when I wanted to open my own business at that time, and honestly didn’t have running thoughts about it again until a bit after the first reopen from COVID last year. I felt it was what was best for my family and I and hit the ground running with it because it’s either sink or swim in the moment and everyone hopes to swim with their ideas and watch them turn into success! I am still watching it all unfold, while working my butt off one way or another every day to continue to turn this dream into my whole reality!

What should our readers know about your business?
I own Lush Med Spa in Westminster, CO! Everyone brings their own edge into their business, and I absolutely love all of the vibes within mine. I put my whole heart and soul into treating each and every human that walks in my door to achieve what they’re hoping to accomplish. I pay very close attention to even the small details that sometimes could be overlooked or lost. My doors are open to every human! I challenge you to come with a goal and lets hit it right on the head. Trust the process with me and we will get it done! If I don’t know something, I’ll make sure to educate myself and get back to my clients with what we need to do. If it is something I don’t feel is best fit for you / something I’m not comfortable doing – I will say just that. I am the most proud of actually taking the leap in starting my own business regardless of how scary it was and I am most excited to see where everything is in the next year! I’d say starting your own business certainly isn’t easy, it’s very stressful but also so exciting in the same time. My mind is my worst enemy most times so I just had to conquer the doubts within myself because failure is a huge fear of mine and I didn’t want to put everything into a business and fail. So I came to the conclusion that failure wasn’t an option and had to completely rid out of that idea / stop weighing myself down with that negative thought. I’ve learned not to doubt myself and to push myself to the highest potential. Great things happen right on the other side of fear and I’m finally realizing that.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
oh wow! This is an exciting question! We would go to breakfast at Mr. Egg in Denver (best breakfast in the whole world!) Of course I’d have to take her in and give her an amazing facial – because what kind of business owner or best friend would I be if that wasn’t in the itinerary! Then we would make time to go to Colorado Sake Co. specifically their handheld sushi rolls and sake from the tap! I would make sure she gets multiple good workouts in! My husband and I’s Trainer (Arlie Rogers) is one of a kind and kicks our butts to no end each week, so that’s a must. Depending on the season, above anything else I love the days my husband throws things on the traeger and smokes food all day while the kids are playing and adults are playing cornhole and just living our best lives. We would go hiking in Boulder at some point and enjoy a day of that!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and foremost it would be my family (which includes my amazing in-laws) and my friends! They have been the biggest cheerleaders I’ve ever had and they have made sure to push my head back up if I ever felt defeated or like I maybe was doing this all wrong. They have talked through ideas with me on endless occasions for me to figure out the best way to provide for my clients and create the best reputation for my business. My brother in law has made a lot of things possible for me that I never thought would be, but he’s made sure I have the tools to succeed! My husband and son have been my rocks through everything to say the least! I don’t have enough words to express how grateful I am for having the support I have because it means the world to me and I have no idea how I could do it without any of them. Second, my old mentor prior to starting my own business. She was extremely knowledgable in this field and built herself from the ground up. The things she taught me while I was on that team, not only just about our field but also about myself and life, that will always be remembered and something I am thankful for. She challenged me in ways I didn’t think I could ever get through, while she sat back and knew I could achieve it (even with full panic on my face). One day I hope to be able to thank her.
