We had the good fortune of connecting with Kathryn Slaughter and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kathryn, how does your business help the community?
VERT Sites helps businesses and communities manage, divert, and eliminate waste. We teach and value waste as a resource – there is a place for discarded materials and items but a trash dumpster should be the last option.

What should our readers know about your business?
VERT Sites is a 100% woman-owned business that was established in April of 2019 in Summit County, Colorado. To date, we have helped mountain communities such as Summit keep over 8,700 pounds of materials out of landfills. Our philosophy is that waste is a resource and the last thing we should do is throw materials and items away. Our favorite waste challenges to tackle are in the events and venue industries and the construction and hospitality industries but we work with all businesses looking to conserve and recover resources.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If in season, I would take them to a concert at the Dillon Amphitheater. It’s one of the best music venues we have in Colorado and one of the most unique ones. I’d also give a little beer tour in Summit as well – Angry James, Dam Brewery, Highside Brewery, and Broken Compass. We would get breakfast at the Haywood in Keystone one of those days. Eventually we would venture out of the county for some camping, hot springs, and hiking.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shoutout to all the waste and sanitation professionals out there. Thanks for all you do and for working with and collaborating with organizations like VERT Sites.
