We had the good fortune of connecting with Libbi Alcorn and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Libbi, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I refused to give up.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Luxe Event Productions, LLC. is Northern & Central Colorado and Southern Wyoming’s premier full-service wedding and event design, planning and management company. Our planning services include wedding & event design and development, complete or partial planning, event management (day-of coordination) and complete event production. In addition to planning services, LUXE offers specialty wedding and event linen rentals and luxury one-of-a-kind décor rentals. Our products and services allow us to create truly customized events for our discerning clients. When I started my business more than 25 years ago, I was one of the first two wedding planners in Northern Colorado. The other planner closed her doors back in the early 2000’s. While I was getting my business off the ground, I had people tell me “What is a wedding planner?” or “Oh that will never take off, why don’t you get a real job.” I refused to listen. I knew that is was just as important as any other wedding vendor, maybe more so. I knew if I could just educate my potential client they would realize that a wedding planner wasn’t a luxury, but instead a necessity. As time went on, I heard more of the “well you can’t go any further than where you are now with the planning” even as my business was growing and evolving. I knew in my gut that I was on to something. So when the 2008 crash happened, I had dug my heels in long enough that I knew I could survive if I just didn’t give up. Still people told me that “I should get a real job” while I was supporting my family on my planning income. Now, more than two decades later, I look back and smile because I had the determination and never gave up, even when it seemed things were stacked against me. I just didn’t quit. That was the most important factor behind where I am now versus where I could have been. If I had listened to others and not followed my instincts I wouldn’t be in business, enjoying my dream job! I read somewhere that something like 90% of business owners give up JUST before their business really took off. I’m so thankful that I was in that 10 % that didn’t. No it wasn’t always easy, but looking back it was totally worth the fight! Never give up!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Old Town Square, Horsetooth Reservoir, Lory State Park are a few of my favorites when I’m home in Fort Collins, Colorado. But for the “best time ever” I would take them to my other home in Saratoga, Wyoming and spend the week in the Snowy Range Mountains! My favorite place in the world!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband Ted and my children (who very often had to celebrate their birthdays on a different day because I had a wedding)!!!!
