We had the good fortune of connecting with Matt Chandler and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Matt, how has your work-life balance changed over time?

I was 19 years old when I started my first company in the Real Estate industry. At the age of 19, my approach was to work 80-100 hrs per week and build the business as fast as I could. My motto at this time in my life was “work hard and play hard” and anytime not spent at work was with my friends and loved ones having fun and enjoying life to the fullest.

Things changed drastically for me early on when I got married and had kids at the young age of 24. I began to spend less time hanging out with friends and more time on my new dad responsibilities. This left me feeling drained and feeling that I had no time left to decompress, take time for myself, and to let loose and have fun with my friends anymore. It took me 3 to 4 years, after my kids were born, before I started to realize I needed to shift around my responsibilities and find ways I could still find time for myself and time for more play and fun in my life.

From my experience, I learned that we all go through cycles in life and must embrace each cycle of life we are in. I learned that it’s VITAL to find time in my schedule for the things that are important to me and that I must guard my time closely to ensure I allow enough time for each of these areas. If you don’t find the balance then you are sure to burn out, be more frustrated, and have less overall joy in my life. It’s important that we carve out enough time in our life for ourselves, fun/play with loved ones, time for kids, and time for my work.

My kids serve as a daily reminder for me to enjoy the present moment in front of me. They’ve helped me see that life is all about being completely present in every moment because you never get these moments back. They have taught me how to find joy in myself and be satisfied instead of worrying about what needs to be done next and what would happen if it doesn’t get done. My kids have been my greatest lesson and guide to staying focused on what really matters most in life.

I look at work-life balance now as the MOST crucial piece for us to be our best selves and produce our highest and best work. Without this balance our work has less meaning, we are less fulfilled, and it’s being done through the lens of a person who is not whole themselves.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

Our mission at the AlcHempist is to bring education and products that focus on the benefits and usage of the “WHOLE” Hemp and Cannabis plant. Due to recent research and popularity we are now able to find CBD Products on the market everywhere and they have become “ordinary” products people use in their daily lives. We believe this plant has WAY more to offer than just CBD and contains various beneficial compounds that interact with our body’s own internal endocannabinoid system, which helps bring balance to all of the systems in the body.

At the AlcHempist we believe in using Alchemy to create our products, which we define as turning the “ordinary” into something “extraordinary”. Our mission is to take “ordinary CBD products” and transform them into “Extraordinary products ” by incorporating all of the beneficial compounds found in the WHOLE Hemp and Cannabis plant.

We are in very exciting times for Hemp and Cannabis research. With the federal legalization of Cannabis very close to reality, we believe this plant will become more researched for its wide array of beneficial compounds it can provide to help us get back to optimal health. We intend to help educate and guide people through this new research and findings, so we all can get a better grasp on how to use this amazing plant for our own personalized health & wellness journey.

Personally, I began using cannabis products 7 years ago at the age of 26, and attribute many positive lifestyle changes I made in my life to cannabis. I grew up in Oklahoma, the center of the Bible belt, where cannabis had a very negative stigma and was highly illegal when I first began using it. Against conventional wisdom, I followed my intuition because of the results and benefits I was experiencing, which to me far outweighed the risks. This is what made me so passionate to create my company and help educate people on the power of this healing plant and how to use it to get the best results in their own life.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

I would plan out some amazing hiking adventures in the front range close to the Boulder and Golden area where I am most familiar with. We would end the hiking with a cold plunge in either the Golden or Boulder parks, and relax in the park afterwards playing games and throwing frisbee.

I would take them to some of my favorite restaurants each night in Boulder and Denver such as River & Woods, Work n Class, and La-Loma to name a few. We would probably hang out at the restaurants to have a few drinks, or go to a close bar to have a few beers and socialize.

I would also plan a 2-3 day trip into the mountains to hit the hot springs and do more exploring. We would probably look to book a few adventures while we are in the mountains such as mountain biking, sledding, skiing, whitewater rafting, or other active fun activities.

Most of the time would be spent enjoying the mountains, playing outdoors, eating good food, and catching up on old times.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

I want to dedicate my shoutout to my kids. Their loving energy and presence was the inspiration I needed to become a better overall person. They helped me realize what is most important in life and have been my biggest teachers in life. Thank you kiddos, for being the guide I needed to discover balance and purpose in my life.
