We had the good fortune of connecting with Lizzy Sinatra and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lizzy, what matters most to you?
Being whole-hearted.

I am very open about talking about my personal story of healing because it comes from my heart. I was blessed with the vision for this company while I was in the midst of experiencing symptoms of an ovarian syndrome and hormonal dysfunction, such as depression, anxiety, hair loss, weight gain, and acne. I was at my worst, and also completely overwhelmed in a PhD program. I ended up leaving the PhD program to pursue this company full time out of my own savings. So there is a lot of humility, vulnerability and openness behind my brand.

High quality food and plant medicine dramatically aided my healing journey, and I refused to put any fillers, added sugars, or non-organic ingredients in my formulas, even when manufacturers told me that would reduce cost on my supplements. I wholeheartedly created this formula to have the highest quality ingredients because it is for healing – which our bodies and minds need, every day. And, I am 100% authentic about what is in my products and why.

I also created this company with my personal Ayurvedic physician and dear friend, Dr. Aswathy, because the science of Ayurveda is so intricate and complex. It is a medical system, and herbs and superfoods each have their own intelligence and function. Dr. Aswathy carefully selects each herb in order to promote a synergistic, positive and uplifting effect in the body, and she only chooses a few (maximum of three herbs) to not overload our bodies. And she doses them to not have a counteracting/adverse effect. It is important as a superfood company to be science-backed, because plants are truly medicine.

Lastly, I am very accessible and responsive with my customers: I handle customer service so I can ensure all my customers are provided authentic information and support. My company is here as a friendly reminder that everyone can – and deserves – to feel seen, heard and valued. Our slogan is “nurture your best self” and we are passionate about reasonless self-care and joy.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am the Founder & CEO of a unique, physician-formulated plant protein brand that harnesses the power of ancient herbal medicine. It is called Ayurvedic Protein®.

After several years seeking treatment for my diagnosed ovarian syndrome, I felt like my healthcare system was failing me. All of my doctors wanted to put my on prescription medication to mask my symptoms of horrendous depression, anxiety, weight gain and hair loss. But I truly wanted to heal from the inside-out and get to the root cause of my imbalance.

My travels to India in 2016 led me to an Ayurvedic physician who saved my health and changed my life. Dr. Aswathy introduced me to the ancient medicine of Ayurveda, one of the oldest holistic healing systems in the world, and I underwent an intense 21-day detoxification & rejuvenation process called a “panchakarma”. After just a few weeks of plant-based eating, herbal medicine and other healing modalities, I was feeling better.

Years later and symptom-free, I continue using Ayurvedic herbs and spices as part of my daily self-care regimen to maintain homeostasis in my mind and body. Dr. Aswathy and I put our heads and our hearts together to create Ayurvedic Protein® and share this life-changing ancient wisdom in a delicious way. I ended up leaving my academic career/PhD program to pursue this company full time in order to bring this sacred wisdom to the modern-day health conscious consumer.

The products we create are vegan, USDA Certified Organic, gluten and soy-free, non-GMO and easy to digest. We place heavy emphasis on being eco-friendly (we only use Certified Organic, sustainably-sourced and fairly traded herbs from farms who are heavily engaged in sustainable and regenerative agricultural practices, such as protection of endangered species of plants, preventing over-harvesting, and using sustainable farming techniques). Our formulas are backed by the science of Ayurvedic medicine, as Dr. Aswathy selects and doses our herbs in order to have a synergistic effect and promote mind/body balance. Our “Dosha-Balancing Blend” features ashwaghanda, bacopa, amalaki, ginger, turmeric and cinnamon to help promote stress support, focus, and immune function. Our proprietary protein blend of rice, pea and pumpkin seed protein powder promotes healthy weight and muscle strength, and ensures adequate protein intake for both devoted and curious plant-based eaters. Our delicious powders mix easily in nut milk, oatmeal, yogurt, or baked goods. And, proceeds go toward fighting the local hunger crisis in nearby Colorado communities.

My company not only specializes in organic, sustainably-sourced, and insanely delicious supplements, but my positive and uplifting messaging about self-care has built a loyal tribe of customers who are inspired to truly nurture their best Self. Ayurvedic Protein® celebrates authenticity, real, raw human emotion, the joy and the pain, strength and compassion, and everything in between. And we are strong believers of the power of plant medicine and attuning ourselves to the innate intelligence of nature for overall well-being.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’ll put some of my favorite “near to Denver” places:

Delicious vegan lunch at City O’ City, then spend a few hours soaking at the pool & caves at Idaho Hot Springs. Sunset meditation and yoga overlooking Standley lake and the mountains, then an evening whiskey, pizza and live music at Bluegrass Bourbon Lounge in Olde Town Arvada

Next day probably a free, introductory morning workout at my training gym, Colorado Krav Maga, followed by horseback riding in Arvada (that’s where I keep my horse), and early dinner and tea at Dushambe Tea House in Boulder.

Next day hiking and river rafting in Lyons followed by a beer at Oskar Blues and hopefully some live music thanks to Planet Bluegrass!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Dr. Ashwathy, my Ayurvedic physician during my intensive “panchakarma” treatment in Kerala, India in 2016. She guided me back to mind/body homeostasis with the ancient medicinal system of Ayurveda. Without her, I might still be experiencing depression, anxiety, weight gain, hair loss and acne from my ovarian syndrome that Western medicine failed to fully heal. She is now my dear friend and co-creator of Ayurvedic Protein®.
