We had the good fortune of connecting with Emma Rose and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Emma, why did you pursue a creative career?
My parents always said I could hold a pencil before I could do anything else, putting pencil to paper was second nature to me. Growing up I always said I wanted to be an artist. I was provided with the tools to pursue that dream by my immediate family, but was encouraged by my peers to follow a more “practical” path. In college I studied psychology with a minor in studio art, but after graduating realized a career in art was what I really wanted. In all honesty my decision to finally pursue my art in a more serious manner was due to my stubborn nature and desire to go against the norm.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
In my art I strive to blur the lines between illusion and reality, a lot of my work is meant to deal with identity and consciousness. I try to use vibrant colors and flowing lines to create enchanted scenes. I am definitely most proud of the way my art has evolved over the years. I feel that my professional art career is just getting started, but I have already learned so much. Something really valuable that I have learned is to focus on my own growth, which can be really hard for me. Denver is so saturated with such talented artists it can be hard not to compare myself to everyone, but it is so important to just remember to do my best and challenge myself daily. Recently I have invested a lot into developing my style and it feels like things are starting to fall into place, for example, I just finished my first mural!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I always take people to RiNo Arts District to show them all the murals, as well as Santa Fe arts district for the galleries. Some of my favorite restaurants and bars would be Linger, Occidental, City o City, and the Black Box or Red Rocks for a show.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I definitely owe a lot to my parents for providing so much creative freedom and encouragement. Also, my college professor Demetrio because whenever I am creating I hear his voice coaching me through.
