Meet HaoTing (Howard) Wang | V Revolution (Owner)

We had the good fortune of connecting with HaoTing (Howard) Wang and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi HaoTing (Howard), we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Growing up in this generation and witnessing first hand the repercussions of our daily choices constantly made me think that it’s time for us to do something to save our planet. From there, I started my research and determined a plan of action that would help minimize our collective environmental impact by changing our diets.
This is the core value of the V Revolution as the veggie revolution and after setting our goal, the starting point was figuring out how to make it a reality.
We’ve made tons of choices, including what style of food and service would most suit the current restaurant industry trends which began by conducting an extensive amount of research on what products we should promote and all the plant-based knowledge that is involved with a vegan/vegetarian lifestyle etc…
Through market data analysis, we were determined to find which country can make the biggest impact on the world, which states and cities should we establish our first store in etc…
There are many factors that can affect the results, but there is no right choice, the only choice you can make is to put yourself into a situation where you have multiple advantages.
This is the brief thought process behind starting my own business.

What should our readers know about your business?
What sets you apart from others? The thing that sets V Revolution apart from others is its DNA.
From the mission we pursue to the products we provide, it is all different from the things I experienced in Colorado. The fundamental makeup of this business, or its DNA, is a modern adaptation of dishes we are familiar with, but with a twist that is less damaging to our planet.
If I can use one word to describe this DNA it is a cultural mix. This DNA is not only present in the products we provide, but it also plays a major role in our work environment and operational strategy.
What are you most proud of or excited about?
V Revolution has to and will be a franchise food chain to accomplish our mission and goal, right now our first store in Englewood, Colorado is doing well and the most important component that I am proud of is our standard kitchen line procedure. It’s the hardest part, especially if you have a Chinese wok station, but on the other hand, it is the reason why we are hard to copy and it is also one of the main reasons why we have multiple investors asking about franchise opportunities.
How did you get to where you are today business-wise. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges?
This time is hard for any business no matter if your business is doing good or bad. It’s not easy. The way I overcome the challenges is about ambition and hard work and this depends on how badly you want to accomplish your goal.
What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I want the world to know that you don’t have to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to buy an electric car to save the planet. Making the dietary change of consuming less meat is one more step toward saving the planet.
When we opened, both vegan and nonvegan customers were convinced that we were using real meat and we’d have to explain it’s all plant-based. Their surprised reactions with the initial awe factor of the menu items resulted in them becoming our regular customers. Seriously, if you can’t tell the difference, who needs to eat real meat?
Our story is only the beginning, and we hope that members of the general public, vegan or not, decide to join us and follow our family into the next chapters of the V Revolution journey.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
As a foreigner, starting my own business here alone was extremely hard, literally starting from scratch. I had no restaurant background, family, or resources. Compared to what I have right now, there are too many people to thank.
Everyone who ever I met, I really appreciated the lesson you gave me, no matter good or bad you made me who I am today.
But of course, there are some people I have to shout out!
Leslie Chau – Mentor/ Consultant/ Executive Chef- we met when V Revolution was only an idea, then together we shaped it into what it is right now. She always treats me selflessly and teaches me how to be a good leader. She’s always positive and brings her best to the company every single day. The way she is persistent for excellence is what I respect and admire.
Aria Lu- My Wife – Aria offers unlimited support and accompaniment and she helps me through all the struggles or depressing moments that come with owning a business. She always shows up when we need help and brings up new ideas or thoughts to the company. She is an amazing wife.
The dream team – I’m so lucky to have the chance to work with these people who show up and always give more than asked and never ask for anything in return. Even though we are just a small company right now, the foundation we built is incredibly strong. I know you guys didn’t ask any for a return, but I promise I won’t let you guys down.
Alan & Cathy – When I first came to the United State for my master’s degree at UNC, I had no one but them. They treated me like family, took care of me and helped me with anything they could, even the remarkable company name we created together. Without them, I wouldn’t be here and never would have started this adventure.
Fans and customers – Thank you all for being so nice and patient, from the beginning to now. We take all the feedback and comments seriously and try our best to accommodate them and we know there is still a lot of room to grow and improve but it takes time. Thank you for supporting our dream and contributing to this project that is bigger than ourselves. We will make an impact. The revolution has only just begun.
