Meet Ramon Balderrama | Photographer & Creative Director

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ramon Balderrama and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ramon, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve had an entrepreneurial and creative mindset since I was young. Ever since I can remember I’ve been putting pen to paper and drawing something. The older I got the better I got but realized it wasn’t as fun anymore so I switched to photography and fell in love with it. To buy my first camera what I did was I started mowing neighbors yards at 13 years old. I saved up and got the camera I wanted, which was a canon t3i at the time, but what I learned from doing so was that I loved working for my self and it was possible to do so. Fast forward to high school, graduation was coming up and I was trying to think of what I wanted to do with my life. I had already got pretty good at photography and started to think about ways I could make money from this creative outlet I had now. I had my landscape business all throughout high school and when I graduated I decided to pass it down to my little brother to focus completely on figuring out how I was going to make a living off of photography. Now, with all the awesome connections I’ve been able to make, support and hard work I’ve figured out how to make a living off of photography.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a photographer, it is extremely hard to stand out now a-days. There are so many great photographer so you really have to learn to be yourself and make art that comes from within you. It’s definitely not easy, social media makes everything look so easy but being a creative entrepreneur is honestly one of the hardest things I’ve done. What I learned was that it’s never easy, it’s going to take more work than you think, consistency and passion. What’d I’d want people to know is that you can make it no matter where you’re from. It’s up to you to go after your dreams and not put up walls in your own head.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
To start we’d focus on food because food is everything, so we’d go to a few bomb spots. Starting with Texas de Brazil for all your meat desires, chubbys for everything cheese and green chili, hit illegal Pete’s, and finish off with my favorite burrito spot, Big City Burrito. Activities, so since we’re eating good our activities would be mostly physical. I love going on hikes so we’d go to some hikes in evergreen, go to one of my favorites in steamboat. After a nice hike we’d come back and enjoy the night life. There are a few things to do here, we’d go to the new meow wolf for the kid in you, go to some stand up comedy or take a walk on 16th street.
