We had the good fortune of connecting with Elissa Volkman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Elissa, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
I’m happiest when I can breathe the fresh air of a new place, and then teach others about how they can experience this refreshing energy too.
I believe that fresh air and taking in the sights and sounds of nature are so very important to our mental and physical health. And I feel this each and every time I get to be in the great outdoors. My goal is to share places from around the world where I’ve felt my best, so that others can learn and be inspired to experience these feelings for themselves. Along the way, I strive to make sure others can be educated about the areas I have visited, to encourage others to learn on their journey, and to use me as a resource whenever possible.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Our mission is to share a variety of unique recreational opportunities with an authentic and curious viewpoint. We want to be a guiding light to our social media and website visitors, to show that anyone can have adventures, travel, visit new places and learn new things even on a budget.
One thing that sets Volkman Adventures apart is our commitment to keeping focus on the outdoors and recreation-based settings. We won’t stray away from our purpose as we strive to share refreshing, hidden gem, attainable, and inspiring content. Education is also an important factor in all of our adventures, and we seek to share our learnings every chance we can.
And I’m really excited that we have the outlets to share all of this with others. Even the thought of being able to inspire people to find their happy place(s) is incredibly motivating. I’m really proud that we’re embracing the ideas of trying new things ourselves to further push our own boundaries to help motivate others.
I’m also really thankful for the community! From webinars, to reading articles, to taking courses, to watching their videos, without learning from the community, I would never have the resources or motivation to grow and share this work – not to mention, without the community, I would never learn about amazing places to explore!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My initial love for the outdoors, touching and seeing nature was fostered from a young age. My parents would never try to stop me from getting my hands muddy and would take me outside and on field trips to learn about all the critters and nature around us.
My initial love of travel was influenced by my grandparents, who would always share hours-long stories of their epic adventures, painting a beautiful picture of the world around us while inspiring me to shoot for the moon and realize that nowhere is out of reach.
My desire for adventure was built, and my mind was opened to a whole new world of outdoor possibilities, by a group of close friends from an indoor rock climbing gym I grew up at. Without the knowledge and inspiration and conversations had with this amazing group over the years, I never would have had the guts to step outside my comfort zone, to kayak or climb or ski, to travel where I’ve traveled, to start a blog, or to encourage others to step outside and follow their dreams as well.
Because I wouldn’t be where I am today without these individuals, I sincerely appreciate their influence and will forever be grateful for their time. I would be honored to dedicate my Shoutout to them.
