We had the good fortune of connecting with Mariya Dimov and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mariya, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I was born in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, a republic of the former Soviet Union and as a child, immigrated to the United States. In my early childhood and in teenage years I suffered through different kinds of serious chronic illness, including Chrohn’s disease. My parents were always aware of alternative medicines and took me to healers, herbalists, acupuncturists, and shamans. Though I will always be thankful to western medicine, through my body’s healing journey I learned about the power, magic, alchemy, and most of all, the enduring efficacy of holistic healing. I’m extremely grateful and truly honored to have stepped onto this path of healing to offer my gifts and service to those in need.
What should our readers know about your business?
I am an alchemist, channel, medicine woman, intuitive healer, artist, and seeker of truth. I offer sessions of Shamanic Reiki mixed with Traditional Chinese Medicine (acupressure, cupping, moxibustion, and gua sha).
I work with energy. We have a physical body and we have energetic bodies. Working with subtle energy helps me access root causes of emotional, mental, and physical ailments while removing blocks affecting a person in their daily life.
We are pure energy. Working on an energetic level can help us peel the layers or pain and trauma, not only our own, but often, of our ancestors and the world around us, it can help undo cultural programming, calm and soothe the ego and nervous system, open our hearts, our sense of curiosity and joy… and connect with ourselves and the Divine, so that our true essence may shine through in every present moment.
Honestly, I do what I do because I truly love to help people and have a desperate desire and calling to do so. I love to see them shine. I love to see their health improve. To see a spark return to their eyes and heart…. an awakening of inspiration to keep living…. especially for those who have weathered a truly dark night of the soul or anything physically or emotionally intense.
I love to mentor people on their spiritual journey of self discovery and I very much love connecting with people through energy, to go on a journey together through space and time! It takes so much trust for someone to allow me to literally rearrange and cleat things in their energy field! Sometimes I really can’t believe how blessed I am to do do what I do… (And yes, it did take me many years to trust myself and to trust that what happening in a session WAS very real. It’s good to question things and in a way I always will, to check myself.)
Perhaps what I love most is to guide people to awaken their connection with themselves and THEIR true power, to witness them take charge of their lives, to thrive, to develop resilience in dealing with obstacles without being crushed by them.
I’m a channel and a vehicle…. I only facilitate for energy to come through me and live my life in a disciplined, clean, and joyful way that makes this possible. I like to inspire others to do the same since we are all channels to some degree. Healing and information come through me, whether on the table during the bodywork or during the very long conversions I have with clients prior to and post body work. I believe that allowing people to be heard, to tell their story can often be as important as the actual Reiki. As a client I have been “discharged” post Reiki only to find myself altered and overwhelmed in the middle of Manhattan when what I really needed was some integration and grounding. This is just part of the reason why my sessions are often more than 2 hours long ! Time isn’t real anyway, right….?! It’s great not to rush. (I also do Reiki remotely where we completely bypass space and time!)
To be as holistic as possible, I offer my knowledge of many tools that I have gathered over time like having a morning practice, setting up a personal spiritual practice, a movement practice, a healthy diet, as well as more intense ways of getting to know ourselves and cleaning out bodies and fields with allies like the Master teacher plants.
I also have an MFA in visual art. I’m a painter, sculptor, performance artist, potter, and sacred healing jewelry designer. Often, people come to sessions with me because they connect with my art.
As a jewelry designer, I’m completely self-taught. My father is an artist and my mom comes from a creative background. My biggest inspiration originally came from the very beautiful and original jewelry that my mom wore that came from the different Asian countries (at the time, republics, surrounding Uzbekistan). Knowing how to make things with my hands I decided to create jewelry that heals and empowers.
I put a lot of energy and intention into my creations. Each piece of the jewelry I make is truly an amulet of love and devotion for the wearer to align to their highest and best potential and truth in order to have the most joy, healing, and integrity on their human path.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Honestly, this question is a bit tricky to answer since much has changed in NY… I will attempt to answer as if the world were in order still.
I always take a friend to Washington square park or Central Park to experience a place that sometimes echos old New York with its jazz, street performers and overall local artists and great weirdos (meant as positive). If we’re lucky, the dosa truck at Washington Square is still there and hasn’t sold out. As far as museums, it’s all about what’s being shown… but my fave has always been PS1. It’s quaint and a little haunted. The James Turrell at sunset on the top floor is a favorite.
At the end of the day, in my neighborhood is a toss up between Guacuco, an exquisite Venezuelan place that serves the very best arepas, or La Cumbanchita, serving authentic Mexican and amazing huitlacoche tamales. Then, it’s the only bar I care to ever be in inside of…. The Keep. With an eclectic, visual aesthetic and atmosphere of a speakeasy, a chill vibe, and great Balkan jazz or live music of equal caliber.
On another day, there’s always the lighter, yet exciting and immersive experience of Fuerza Bruta…. OR the extremely visceral and powerful Sleep No More, where you feel like you’re inside a vision of Shakespeare’s MacBeth in a world akin to that of Kubrick, Lynch, and Bill Viola all mixed into a psychedelic fairy tale that you’re literally walking and living through. A once in a lifetime experience not to be missed.
Topping another day off with some performance art or a noise show in a tiny venue in Bushwick is usually a pretty good idea.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate this shoutout in gratitude to the many ancient medicines available on our planet and to the indigenous people who have preserved their knowledge in service to others. These include the master teacher plants of Peru and Brazil and Traditional Chinese Medicine. They have reminded me not only how to travel between worlds and witness “the unseen”, but how to integrate that knowledge with intention and awareness into every day life. Most importantly, they have taught me that true wisdom and power reside within Me. Within each one of us. It’s up to us to choose how to harness and use that power responsibly. They have taught me that the wisdom of the body is so great, that the most unfathomable miracles can and do happen each day through trust and surrender to the Divine (whatever that is in one’s understanding).
And of course, I am extremely thankful to my blood and soul family and to the many earthly teachers in my life.
