We had the good fortune of connecting with Delcy Albertini and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Delcy, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
In contrast to the culture of disposability, we believe passionately in small-scale production of unique pieces crafted by nature and molded by human hands; with the importance of investing in people rather than machines.
Our pieces all start beautifully carved by mother nature and exquisitely finished by the hands of our team of talented sculptors.
At ETIQUETA NEGRA Creative Studio, we support groups of villages located in hidden-remote places around the world, which more often than not, these beautiful cultures live in and from the forests.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I was always driven and surrounded by art, but it was only until I’ve traveled to numerous places around Asia, Central America, Europe and South America, sourcing and learning about craftmanship and artisans; when I decided to use my passion (for design, architecture, art and the human narrative) that it evolved into a profession.
In 2019, I’ve found myself attending NYIAD online courses, reading tons of books and having infinite opened tabs in my computer about everything related to design, art, timeless pieces and unique furniture; that then ETIQUETA NEGRA Studio was officially born. However, with just a few styling projects in my hands at that moment; but still fully committed to the villages, its artisan people and my promises to them; I asked for unique pieces such as baskets, art wall, benches, sculptures. This was all in hope of allocating them in “future projects”.
At this point, it was just a dream with no income nor profit, and all in the middle of a global pandemic; needless to say, I started asking myself: “how did I get myself into such a commitment? and Why?” … but it was only until my first container arrived that I knew it was worthy of every effort by us all.
I started reaching out to every single designer and architecture firms, endless zoom meetings, phone conversations and numerous emails to show them with so much pride what can be done for their clients. Slowly, a couple of projects came my way and another full container started to be loaded. I’ve started to dedicate more and more time to my business, adding family members as full-time employees and expanding the studio to South America (Paraguay), with the hopes of gradually expanding to other markets.
Since we now live in a fast-changing tech generation and a society that loves instant gratification, symmetry and pursue perfection; my goal is to show that sometimes we fail to appreciate the simple ruggedness of nature. If we see things from this perspective, we can value all creations, and use them in life to achieve peace and contentment in our homes; realizing that most things worth waiting for, are worth waiting for.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Living in a city like Miami where everyone wants to vacation is definitely a plus factor. The drive throughout the Florida Keys is for sure a must and end the trip to watch the sunset at Key West is unforgettable. Wynwood area to try out their delicious food trucks with plenty fusion cuisine to choose from. And of course, the clear water beaches.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
With the unconditional support of my tribe (family) and of course the work of the artisans and craftsmen team; the success of ETIQUETA NEGRA Studio will not be possible. Every member is an essential part of the beautiful result.
