We had the good fortune of connecting with Guy Duplantier and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Guy, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
I don’t really look at things in terms of being on or off balance. How driven are you to get where you want to be? What life do you want to provide for your family? What will your legacy be? These are a few of the questions I weigh in on. I can grind for 10 hours a day to make sure the lights are on and foods on the table and make soccer or football practice to support my kids, go home eat said food, take care of my nightly chores and spend time with the Mrs.
It comes down to commitment. How committed am I to living up to my expectations, seeing things through and being able to leave my mark (the legacy part) on the folks I come in contact with, be it professionally, my family, freinds, guest of the podcast or customers of Western Fly Covers.
Some folks say its about finding balance, you hear that thing about burning the candle at both ends. For me it boils down to commitment, I set out to do a thing, that thing deserves everything I have to give.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I own and host Western Contours podcast and I am the owner, designer, sewer etc. etc etc. at Western Fly Covers. Both of these endeavors stem from my passion, desire and love to be out on the mountain experiencing nature, in my opinion how God intended, free from distraction, free of judgment, at peace and in the moment.
With the podcast I wanted to share my experience, live through guest experiences (we all see things through a different lens) and share all of it with whoever cares to listen.
Western Fly Covers was born out my necessity. I wanted to weather the storm, extend my time out and that meant when the weather turns my critical gear stays dry and protected from the elements.
Life is a series of challenges and the size and weight is all in perspective. I’m still growing in a lot of aspects with both endeavors, the information in whatever challenge may come up is out there, free and at my finger tips. I just need to make the effort to find and apply.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to my wife right out the gates for the constant support, even when she doesn’t fully understand my desire to go full send. There’s no way for me to nail down one person or one book, I feel like that belittles anyone who has ever taught me a lesson good, bad or otherwise. I’m a firm believer in “everyone comes into your life for a reason.” The reflection of why is totally up to me.
I’m an outdoorsman through and through, my passion in the outdoors has put me in front of so many amazing people who share the same passion for wildlife and adventure. They inspire me, encourage me directly and indirectly and give me things to aspire to. If your spending time in God’s creation, looking for self-betterment and striving to achieve. Shout out and thank you for the inspiration!
