We had the good fortune of connecting with Hannah Chavez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Hannah, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
This is my path. I always knew I wanted to be in a creative industry. I discovered hair, Barbering, Makeup etc; which were always things I enjoyed doing and was always fascinated with. That’s when I Then realized, With this I would Be able to have a career that I could express my true creativity each and every day I choose. With passion & determination you can do anything you set your mind to. I love making people feel open and comfortable; but most importantly; confident. There are so many different doors I can open to keep elevating my art. I can keep making my career the most delightful and gratifying it can be. There’s never a limit to this. The possibilities are endless. There is Truly So much I can do to keep myself and my business growing. I also wanted to always be able to be my true authentic self & impact peoples lives with the career that I chose long term. Which now I get to do. I’m so passionate about this. It’s absolutely the most refreshing career. It’s amazing when you really manifest what you want & then remember all you can manifest.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Now almost 6 years into my professional career. I chose these services to specialize in: Mens and Women’s hair cutting, Barbering – fades, tapers, combovers etc. I also do alot of Braiding, Waxing, curly hair, mens perms, colors. I love to be able to do what I am truly passionate about! This road wasn’t the easiest one but it was worth it. I knew I would have to sacrifice certain things to get to certain places. I’m dual licensed. Meaning I have a Cosmetology and a Barber License. I was born and raised in the California Bay Area. When I first got my cosmo license out in the bay I was also a free lance makeup artist at the time. I started working in a “fine mens salon” kind of like a Boujee barbershop. The structure there was not good, they said there was a specific way we had to cut, specific tools we had to use, people were in competition with one another and the list goes on, management was so mean. I told myself this is not what I want to do. It was so hard to start at an hourly/ commission place and just dislike it. But I knew I was building. I knew I had to start somewhere. I contemplated so many different routes, but I then chose to move to Colorado. My parents were out here and my dad told me I could bring my California style to Colorado and stand out. So I thought? Why not? I came down here and worked at Veda salon and spa where I actually worked previously in high school as a receptionist thanks to my hairstylist Jose at the time. It was such an amazing place. The environment, the friends I made, everything just beautiful. When I was working there licensed I did makeup and also was doing an apprenticeship (mostly for womens hair/ coloring). I didn’t want to just focus on one thing or do what people expected of me. I wanted to express my creativity, I didn’t want to work hourly, I didn’t want assist and wash peoples hair all day. But again; I knew I had to start somewhere. It was so hard to leave my people there because I truly did love that environment at veda. But I had this fire In me ready for something else. Only I knew what I wanted, only I understood my vision. So as I was already thinking of leaving the salon. One of my good friends Andrew was working at faded image barbershop and he told me that they just opened recently & wanted to hire someone bad ass and someone who loved barbering, So he thought of me and I then thought yes. This is what I always manifested. Being in a barbershop building MY business. I Started my journey there July 2018. Best thing I ever did. It was so hard to start at a booth rent barbershop that just opened with not much walk in traffic at first (typical with a newly opened shop) & with me starting with zero clients. I learned so much being there, worked so hard even though it was tough at first (like anything)  and Then I soon established my amazing clientele. In Which so many I still service to this day. My loved ones asked me if I was doing the right thing. Everyone was asking me if this was the smart move and I always believed in myself and knew this was indeed the route I needed to take. I’m so lucky to have had the support of my loved ones even though they thought I was a little bit crazy. I knew there would be a lot of Sacrificing and putting so much at risk. The shop owners and The guys I worked with were always so supportive and always giving me tips to help me grow. Everyone saw my vision and knew who Hannah chavez beauty was. The clients, the people around me. I was starting to make a name for myself. I then decided to get my own hair studio September 2020. It’s so crazy all the obstacles you face and then still keep going because you know it will be worth it. Now this is the best thing I’ve done. It’s so amazing to have all my own clients. I get to choose my vibe everyday I get to be my own boss. There is so much I am currently learning and so much I have learned. It’s a never ending process of growth. But I’m doing it and I couldn’t be any happier. I think in our hearts we know exactly what we have to do. But we have to actually listen to our hearts and let it take us where we’re meant to go. Even if that means sacrificing what we feel comfortable with or where we feel comfortable at. And we need to do what we need to do to get to the next step. You’ll never be satisfied when you have a big vision, but one thing I know is to appreciate where you are now and where you’re going. The road won’t always be easy but it will be worth it. I can’t wait to see what the future hold for me and my business Hannah Chavez Beauty.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love concerts And I love shows. So I’d definitely say hit up the ball arena, or a place like the red rocks amphitheater. Look for some good shows. See what sports are playing; personally I love some Nuggets and Rockies Games; if it’s the season Ofocourse. I would definitely recommend a hike if the weather calls for it. My boyfriend and I have done three 14ers in the last year (Quandary Peak, Mount Democrat) we have done other hikes too, but 14ers are such a cool mental and physical challenge. I love Cuba Cuba in castle rock. That restaurant is so yummy and some days they have live Cuban style music. I’m definitely a foodie, so if there’s good food and live music I’m there. Good vibes only.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
So grateful to have my beautiful family and amazing boyfriend. Thankful for you all and the support in my business even with all the long days and nights, and always believing in my vision, and For always listening to my crazy ideas. Big shoutout to my grandpa who always believed in my business and got to see my hair studio before he passed. It’s a crazy journey of life, but we have to always be excited about the opportunities and new paths that align in our universe Each new day. Thankful for my true great friends for being inspiring and being there for Me. A book that has also helped my self development recently was ‘the four agreements’ It reminded me to always be true to myself and to not take life so seriously. Other peoples actions don’t have anything to do With me & we are the creators of our own happiness. So if you have positive things, hobby’s, & people in your life; Cherish them, love them, & love Life. Enjoy the blessings of all that you work hard for and don’t take anything for granted.
