We had the good fortune of connecting with Schama Noel and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Schama, why did you pursue a creative career?
I believe it is my calling. I was writing poetry since 4th grade, writing and composing music just comes natural to me. There’s nothing in this world I’d rather be doing.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
In a genre that SOMETIMES glorifies drugs, sex, and spending money, I set out on a clear path to stray away from the norm. None of my music has any sexually explicit material or profanity. Also, stylistically I am multi-dimensional with how I approach music, I can give you love songs, meditative songs, party songs, uplifting songs or all of the above on the same track depending on the day. My songwriting ability is also to be noted, I am the creator of @RapLike which is an account on twitter that emulates rappers. I’m able to put myself in the perspective of any artist and am capable of using every literary device in my music without it being cliche or forced.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Most of my friends are gamers so we’d definitely check out 1-Up, which is a barcade I enjoy going to. Walter’s 303 Pizza is one of my favorite places to eat, I would highly recommend it to anyone who likes Pizza. Beerhall is a fun place to go to if you like dancing, my homie DJ Archi spins there on the weekend, its a cool bar/club with dope music.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
303 Magazine was the first big publication in Denver to write a story about me. I’d like to give them a shoutout and applaud them for consistently highlighting local artists. The interview I did with them(Kori Hazel) in 2020 really set the tone for my future in Colorado and solidified me as one of the most exciting new artists to watch.
