We had the good fortune of connecting with Taneil and Jared Dennis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Taneil and Jared, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My husband and I have always been very passionate about fitness. We were apart of the CrossFit Low Oxygen community as members and I coached there full time as a coach. When the opportunity became available for us to purchase the gym we knew that was exactly what we wanted. The timing of us purchasing the gym was not great as we closed one week into the pandemic with the thought that it would only last a couple of weeks. To our surprise and everyone else we did not open our doors as business owners until 8 weeks later on a very limited basis. Jared and I were confident that if we could make it through that we could make it through anything! Our love for fitness and CrossFit has been life changing for ours. It provides us a healthy outlet and allows us to share that with every person that walks through our doors. That positive impact is what drives us every day!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Taneil-I am so proud to be co-owner of CrossFit Low Oxygen with my husband Jared. I moved out to Colorado from Maryland right after college. I was a collegiate athlete and wanted to continue having an active lifestyle. After the birth of my daughter, Nadia, I found CrossFit and never looked back. I coached Field Hockey right after college and was so excited for the opportunity to impact people in that way again. CrossFit gave me that chance. I continue to learn lessons along the way but I find that on a day to day basis I am reminded that there is always a solution to a problem or issue. You just have to keep pursuing those resolutions.

Jared-As an active Police Officer I always knew the importance of being physically fit on the job. Fitness proved to be very important for me in that aspect. I have overcome some major life challenges and I attribute that to my unwillingness to fail. Taneil and I are relentless in our pursuit of fitness and giving to our community in a positive way.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We live in Summit County so we would definitely be exploring in and around this area. We would take them to Sunshine Cafe for breakfast, Mountain Dwellers for a great cup of coffee, lunch would be at Pure Kitchen, and dinner at Bistro North. If it was Summer we would head out for a visitor friendly hike, check out the Dillon Farmer’s Market, and see a show at the Dillon Amphitheatre. The Dillon Amphitheatre is a beautiful venue with a mountain bake drop that host concerts all throughout the Summer in Dillon.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We are fortunate to have such amazing support from our families. They believed in us and knew that we could take this path and be successful. We would also like to recognize our CrossFit Low Oxygen family. They have been behind us and have supported us through the pandemic and we truly consider them family. Our coaches have been an integral part of CrossFit Low Oxygen. They have also been supportive and stood by us through challenging times. We also have each other and that has been paramount. Jared is also a full time police officer for the Town of Dillon and we have 4 children together. Our support for one another has allowed us to be where we are today.
