We had the good fortune of connecting with Randy Silkwood and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Randy, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
At first, I wanted to be able to own my life and be my own boss. Over time, it developed into a need to be able to love people where they are at and to empower them to turn their very own passions into their purpose. I understood that the biggest thing that holds us back is our beliefs and if I was able to inspire even one person to believe in themselves even just a little more, then I did what I was meant to do.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a writer, a blogger, podcaster, coach and speaker on Personal Power and Purposeful Living I get the oppurtunity to connect with people to show them that art is not only something for canvas and design. Our life is art. I like to believe that the world is a canvas and I hold the brush.

The biggest thing that sets me apart is that I believe that personal power exists on the soul level. We just need to receive the guidance and acceptance to tap into it. We were all meant for something more, it’s a matter of chipping away the false sense of what we believe is true and discovering the truth within ourselves at any level.

I’m currently most excited about the plans that are unfolding within the next few months, as far as working on finishing my first book, Storyteller as well as being able to really focus on spreading a message of Personal Power to other people through the Reframed Podcast and working with my community to bring the kind of positive energy that this world deserves.

I got to this place today, after years of Wellness Coaching through a network marketing company. It was my energy and my passion for people that made me successful, but in that specific environment its really a slanted kind of reality. I became a successful network marketer and earned a 6 figure income in a short time. I was able to check off the network marketing goals of Firing my own boss, Firing my partners boss, growing a large organization. The more I grew through, the more I began to see that this didn’t truly agree with who I was on a soul level. So I had to make a decision. I wanted to work for myself, and I wanted to move and live my life On Purpose but I wanted to do it my way. So I had to walk away and go back to the drawing board. It wasn’t easy, but it was definitely the most fulfilling.

The success in helping people was easy. Growing and developing personally and professionally was easy. I think it was all easy because I was on fire for my purpose and I moved and lived holding onto the belief that this was meant for me and that helping others was what I was destined for. The hardest part really came when I recognized that it wasn’t about the money, and it wasn’t about network marketing. When I gave my up-line notice that I was going to start my own coaching company, I was laughed at, talked down to and eventually shunned. That was hard, but I’ve come to find that when those type of obstacles arise, it is divine confirmation you’re doing what YOU are meant to do.

The lessons I’ve learned are that every single person holds a puzzle piece that we need. If we can connect and come to understand we are no different, then we can come together and grow together. I’ve learned that there is NO glory in working 100 hours a week “Hustling”. So many entrepreneurs glorify working tons of hours, and pushing themselves on all limits. I was taught that, but what I gained from that was nothing in compared to what I lost. The biggest lesson at this point in my life is to remind people just to go for it. Whatever it is you want to do, whatever goal you have, don’t focus on the why you shouldn’t. Jump. Now.

My Brand and My Story is really all an extension of myself and the experiences that I have had and have known others to have. What I strive to do is help to open peoples hearts up to themselves. True empowerment comes from meeting yourself where you are and as you truly are with love. And thats my goal. Helping people uncover their power and then be able to help them create a life that is intended, not accidental.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The first place I ever go when I’m in Denver is the Tattered Cover. My friends tend to be huge readers, so we would scan every book in the store. Then we would head to the Denver Center for the Performing Arts. Last weekend we all went to see Hamilton. There is such a creative energy there. Then there would be a need to hit up every single museum in town.

And there would be lots of pizza eating, Sexy Pizza is not only delicious but they support some incredible causes with their Philanthro-Pies.

And of course, I would sneak back up to the Rocky Mountains (my home) and spend an entire week at one of my favorite cabins doing a retreat, casting vision for the future, and soaking up the outdoors.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My older sister, Della. She has been my hero and my champion for my entire life. She was 27 when I was born, so she she had years of knowledge and wisdom and was one of the first people in our family to break away from small living. She worked hard, put herself through college and built quite a reputation for being a hardworking, compassionate, and inspiring female.

When I was young, I was so blessed because she was able to see there was something within me that needed to be truly nurtured. Our parents were farm people who believed that life was already pre-planned. I was to go to high school, work at a factory, own the family farm and die. My sister saw early on that there was something within me that was greater then that and she would often push me to think about the direction I wanted my life to take. She would go as far as to engage me in discussions on personal power, empowerment, professionalism and entrepreneurship. With her belief in me, I came to understand that there was nothing that I couldn’t achieve. She was a role model, as well as a model in business. Teaching me that the biggest thing any person really wants is to be seen, to feel heard, and to be believed in and helped me realize that there is nothing I can’t do.
