Meet susan davies | Executive Director, Trails and Open Space Coalition

We had the good fortune of connecting with susan davies and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi susan, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
After spending 30 years pursuing a career in the private sector, I’ve been given the chance to “re-create myself” and work in the non-profit sector where I truly feel my team is making a difference. We will leave this city, region, world better than we found it!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I run a small non-profit and therefore wear many hats. I am Human Resources, in charge of payroll, manage a small staff and am the Communications Director all rolled into one. When I took this job 13 years ago I had no idea I would be running a business and had a great deal to learn quickly. I quickly sought out Mentors who helped me along the way and would not let me fail. Surrounding yourself with the right team is critical to your success. I tell each of them – my job is to give you the tools to be successful. We have been given the gift of a great mission, excellent Board and each other’s talents. We are determined not to squander any of it.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There are so many great spots to hike in our area. I’d take them to Red Rock Open Space, Ute Valley Park, Cheyenne Mtn State Park, Monument Rock and Fox Run. Love Cerberus for apres’ hiking beers and food. GoatPatch too!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Truly it is my team. People work in the non-profit sector NOT because they will get rich. They won’t. They choose it because they care about the mission and want to make a difference in their community. My Team is the reason I love my job.
