We had the good fortune of connecting with Billy Baxter and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Billy, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
More than 99% of gun owners are untrained. This sounds scary but this is a massive opportunity for the firearms training industry to provide gun owners with the confidence and skills to operate their firearms safely. Whether for sport or personal protection, gun owners need training and more often than not, they don’t know where to turn.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
When I moved to Colorado from Orange County CA (sorry natives, lol) I saw a huge deficit in the South Western CO for quality training. I started off small providing concealed carry lectures on law and theory. I then built the website and social platform pages and started offering private training and eventually began offering structured training for civilian and law enforcement agencies. We now have a cadre of 4 instructors with a diverse background of military, special operations, law enforcement and civilian practitioners who don’t do this at all for the money. We do this because we love training and we love the people. One of the most satisfying things for us is to see the confidence and skills transform individuals who were so insecure and apprehensive for a variety of reasons. It truly is a labor of love.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We live in such an amazing area with so much to offer. I would start with some ATV riding through the hills and mountains that surround our property in south Montrose. Then, lets hook up the boat and pack some snacks for some time on the water at Ridgway lake! We can cruise around and admire the majestic scenery and the jaw dropping beauty of the San Juan and Cimarron mountain ranges while we find a beach to throw anchor to have a picnic. Then lets hit the town for some double barrel tacos or a beer on the patio of Horsefly brewery.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My wife Selena Baxter has been pivotal in making FieldCraft Defense happen. She has supported me in every way and understands the commitment and dedication needed to succeed. She has been there to pick up my slack when I’m working late or on weekend as I often do. She has understood that this venture was a calling for me and that the service we provide is of the highest importance. Thank you Mouse, I love you!
