We love ourselves a good quote and so we asked our community to share their favorite quotes and affirmations with us and we’ve highlighted some below.

My favorite quote, the one that has stayed with me the longest, and seen me through some really rough times, is, “When you know better, do better.” It is by Maya Angelou. The whole quote is, “Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better”. I saw it on the Oprah Winfrey show in my early 20’s. It’s been so long ago I can’t recall if Maya Angelou was a guest on the show then or if Oprah was repeating the quote, but it struck a chord with me. It was exactly what I needed to hear at the time. I was living in a foreign country and going through a very hard time in my marriage, on the verge of leaving with my young son. Read more>>

“Whenever the doubt of “no I can’t” begins to rise, may the confidence of “yes I can” be invited instead. -Arielle Estoria Coming from an established career in physical therapy, deciding to start my own photography business is probably one of the scariest things I’ve done in my entire life. It was so hard to put myself out there and not be fearful of rejection or failure. This affirmation has really helped me quiet my mind in times of doubt and focus on what I have accomplished thus far and what I know I will continue to accomplish in this business! Read more>>

“Make Good Art,” by Neil Gaiman. The full quote is nuanced and filled with a touch of the humor that Gaiman is known for, but this snippet is essentially the bones of the theme. We approach every project with the core of this idea in mind. Garrett takes considerable time to set up our lighting and compositions, adjusting settings on his camera between test shots, with as much care as I take in editing each photo to get that perfect color and tone. Every photo we create is an opportunity to not only capture a moment, but to make good art, to reveal the beauty of these brief, fleeting moments. Read more>>

Live to inspire. I started using that line when I was in high school and it informed everything as I seriously started thinking about what I wanted to do with my life. It was the basis for the first brand I ever started, selling t-shirts with inspirational meaning to the kids at school. I’ve since had it tattooed on my arm as a reminder to use each day to create and make an impact. It originally came from a place of vulnerability: wanting to always have a reason to wake up each morning. And as I have grown, it has too. It’s become an obsession with creating positive ripples in the world around us. If I wake up and I live each day to inspire people, maybe they’ll do the same. And maybe then, the people they inspire will do the same, and so on. All in all, it’s a simple way to say, make the most of every day and use your skills and energy for good. Read more>>

My favorite quote is something my old boss used to tell me often. And he is still someone I look up to and consider a mentor. That quote was, anything one man can do, another man can do. Now I know that quote is from a 90’s movie called The Edge about a man who is attacked by a bear and defeats it. He would tell me, “kill the bear”. And to me that means if somebody has done something that I think is impressive or shouldn’t be possible, it’s totally possible and there’s no reason why I can’t also do something that might be considered impressive. or something I may have previously thought wasn’t possible. And that is what excites me most about my job is when I can figure out how to do something and prove that it is possible. Read more>>
