We had the good fortune of connecting with Garth Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Garth, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Initially, my first thought was independence. I wanted to be my own boss, set my own rules, and work on my own time. I felt that if I continued working my nine-to-five job, I was destined and predetermined to be working the same routine until retirement. That idea and thought process scared me as a creative person and being the natural go-getter I always knew I had been. I wasn’t quite sure what business that would be in that moment, but I knew creating one was inevitable.

Not too long after this epiphany, my thinking changed, my desire had intensified, and my drive skyrocketed all in unison. Around that time, I was watching a lot of the popular TV show ‘Shark Tank’ for inspiration. With each and every person who showcased their respective invention or business model, my own interest to create my own business had intensified.

Choosing what business, what we would offer, and how we would stand out as entrepreneurs didn’t come until a year later when my passion for music, promoting, and web design all came together, resulting in a music blog that focused on the rising talent in today’s dance music industry. Needless to say, I hunkered down on the niche and haven’t looked back.

What should our readers know about your business?
We are Monsoon Season, an electronic dance music blog that focuses on the up and coming artists, brands, and events in today’s culture and community. We chose to focus on rising talent due to the void that separates artists from being local talent to international headliners and household names. Not too many (if any at all) blogs, publications, or media outlets were exclusively focused on artists until they had reached that illustrious notoriety or level of fame. We decided to take that risk, re-center the spotlight, and give the recognition that was deserved to the hungry and motivated artists making a name for themselves. Before the fame, before the success, there is always a story to tell.

We pride ourselves on our decision to focus on the up-and-coming names in today’s bustling and competitive music industry. The fact we are introduced to untapped talent, unheard-of music, and captivating art almost daily is undeniably the most exciting part of our focus. If that model changed, we feel our individuality and uniquess would go along with it.

Our ongoing journey hasn’t been easy. We have reached this point thus far by chipping away at it daily, even if little or large. From the small tasks to the bigger projects, they all matter equally and are necessary for the growth of the business. A multitude of early mornings and late nights have also been a common occurrence that helped us along the way. Hard work and dedication all have been at play along with all pistons firing! We are here for the underground and that encapsulates the whole world, so there was always work to be done.

Remembering to have fun, be kind to others, and being open-minded to learning along the way is most definitely how we overcame most challenges. No one has all the answers right away, so be adaptive to change and growth. It’s good for you.

The lessons learned along the way are priceless. From time management to artist relations and beyond, the music business industry is an everlasting chapter for you every day to read, practice, and experience. From simple to complex, the challenges and takeaways are just as important as your wins. Each one has its purpose and point, all resulting in the potential benefit of your brand and image as a business owner.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Spending the week with Monsoon Season in Colorado would play out like a movie. We are truly blessed to live here with such a fascinating landscape, cultural diversity, and vibrant music industry.

Upon arrival, we need to make sure our bellies are full and we are well-nourished. First stop, Sam’s No 3 in downtown Denver. This restaurant is world-renowned, celebrity chef-approved, and has the best atmosphere for the fun, food-filled, and ultimately welcoming friendliness you expect from Coloradans. They have a diverse food menu, local drink selections, and its unbeatable location being smack dab in the middle of downtown.

Not far from there, we head to the 16th Street Mall to get some warmup walking in, see the stores, embrace the outdoor-style shopping areas, and get that breath of fresh air to really remind you you are in the Mile-High City. Get used to the outdoor/open-air options, it seems to be the thing to do here in the Rockies.

Since we are downtown, we can get around to all the nightclubs like The Church, Beta, Club Vinyl, The Black Box, Temple and more in little to no time from each other to witness the lively nightlife and see our favorite local acts along with special heavy-hitting headliners for a night on the town. After you have gotten your fair share of nightclubs and loud music for the night, heading to a more mellow swanky bar, cocktail lounge, or after-hours spot is a must. Keep the party going without going too hard too quick. Denver has several choices, all of them are laidback, upscale, and have something to offer for the curious types.

Over the next couple of days on the trip, spending time to experience Denver, and Colorado as a whole has to be spent on its aesthetic attractions, districts, and places that have the ability to awe you. The Denver Arts District, RiNo District, and newly opened Meow Wolf, in particular, are all top-notch picks as places that are a must to experience in the city.

Once we have made our rounds around the city, seeing its beautiful structures, art, and infrastructure, we head west towards the Rocky Mountains for the real-deal, true-blue, and arguably most influential sight and place in the whole state of Colorado. That place is Red Rocks Amphitheatre. Get your hiking boots on, as this will be a trek.

Red Rocks Amphitheater is located around 4o minutes away from the city in Morrison. Being a state park, a naturally-formed geological monolith rock structure, and ultimately a music venue known to the world as Red Rocks. We come here to not just look at the one-of-a-kind structure but we are here to experience a live concert unlike any venue can offer on the planet. The open-air setting, the angle of the crowd looking below upon the live music, and seeing the city illuminated in the backdrop is next to heavenly. For decades this place has been nestled in the backyard of Denver being appreciated by the masses.
No matter the genre of music, the act, nor the performing artist; they all agree that Red Rocks is the most exhilarating place to experience live music.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Without a doubt, first and foremost, my mother. She has been avidly blogging since I was a teenager. I didn’t really understand the ideology of blogging around that time, nor the purpose of it until I took the time to take a look for myself with an open mind. She showed me the what, the why, and the hows of blogging while incorporating my own spin on it. I listened to her, learned from her, and began to fall in love with blogging just from what she showed me in those introductory days. I owe a lot to her for this. Thanks, Mom.

I must also give a major shoutout to our readers, supporters, the musicians, friends/family, and contributors who have all made this possible for us at Monsoon Season. All the love we recieve and constant support is irreplacable and we wouldn’t be where we are today without it. You all inspire us to keep going and remind us anything is possible when your keep your head down and chin up.
